Brookhaven police investigate multiple Memorial Day Weekend shootings

BROOKHAVEN, Miss. (WJTV) – Brookhaven police are investigating multiple Memorial Day Weekend shootings. Commander Tim Sander, with the Brookhaven Police Department, a shooting on Sunday, May 25 left one person dead and another wound. The incident happened in the Ozark Lane-Crooked Lane area around 6:20 p.m. Mississippi father, son killed after truck crashes into fallen tree According to Sander, police are also investigating shootings that occurred on East Court Street and Industrial Park Road this weekend. Around 3:00 a.m. on Monday, May 26, Sander said one person was injured in a shooting in the Brignall area. Another shooting was reported in the Marr Street area, but no one was injured. WATCH: Smell of marijuana turns routine traffic stop into drug bust in Brookhaven

A man was arrested last Saturday after a routine traffic stop turned into a drug bust. Police say on March 1, Brookhaven Police Officers pulled a vehicle over on the Buford Highway corridor. When they made it to the vehicle, officers reportedly smelled marijuana. Marijuana is currently listed as an illegal substance in the state of Georgia. Officers opened the trunk of the car and found what they describe as a 'smorgasbord of illegal drugs.' Police say they found crack cocaine, cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, ecstasy gummies, ecstasy pills, and hydrocodone pills.
