‘Aggressive': Brookline Police warn public about wild turkeys that chased officer into building
If you're a wild turkey in Brookline, police are watching your moves very closely. Police on Wednesday morning issued a public warning about 'aggressive turkeys' during mating season, after one of the wild fowls 'chased a parking enforcement officer into a building and then began pecking on the glass door.' The harrowing chase happened at around 8:30 a.m. Police received reports about several aggressive turkeys spotted along Babcock Street. An animal control officer responded to the scene to assist. 'Brookline residents should be aware that wild turkey mating season is currently underway, and some turkeys may display aggressive behavior,' police said in a Facebook post shortly before 10:30 a.m. Police offered the following tips about aggressive turkeys, and their behaviors during mating season: During mating season (typically March through May), male turkeys (toms) become territorial and may perceive humans as threats or competitors. They may chase, peck, or attempt to intimidate people entering what they consider their territory. Safety Tips Maintain distance when encountering wild turkeys Never feed wild turkeys, which reinforces bold behavior If approached, appear large by opening your coat or raising your arms Make loud noises to discourage approaching turkeys Use an umbrella as a shield if necessary Keep small children and pets close when in known turkey areas Anyone who encounters an unusually aggressive turkey is asked to report it to the Brookline Police Department's Animal Control unit at 617-730-2222, and to include the location, time, and description of the turkey's behavior. 'This is a temporary seasonal occurrence,' police said. 'Turkey aggression typically subsides after mating season ends.' This is a developing story. Police: Man defaced several Tesla vehicles in Brookline
BROOKLINE, Mass. (WPRI) — Police have arrested a man accused of defacing numerous Tesla vehicles in Brookline over the weekend. Harrison Grant Randall, 39, of Roslindale, has been charged with six counts of defacing property. The investigation began Sunday after several Tesla owners reported that a man riding a bicycle had placed stickers on their vehicles, which were parked in Brookline Village. The stickers featured Tesla CEO Elon Musk, who is spearheading President Donald Trump's push to slash government spending, extending his arm in a way that appears to mimic a Nazi salute. The controversial photograph of Musk was taken as he was celebrating Trump's inauguration earlier this year. (Musk has since brushed off the accusations, emphasizing that the gesture was made in a positive spirit and had nothing to do with Nazis.) Police said when the suspect, later identified as Randall, was confronted by one of the victims, he claimed he had a right to do so based on freedom of speech. The victim recorded the interaction on his cell phone, which the Brookline Police Department later shared on social media Tuesday afternoon. 'I guess we have a difference in opinion,' Randall was heard telling the Tesla owner after suggesting he remove the sticker if he didn't like it. Musk himself responded to one of the Brookline Police Department's posts, which had been shared on his social media platform X: 'Damaging the property of others, aka vandalism, is not free speech!' Randall was taken into custody Wednesday evening in Roslindale after someone reported seeing him riding his bicycle down the street. His bail was set at $2,500. Man vandalized Teslas with Elon Musk stickers, said it was free speech, MA cops say
A Massachusetts man is facing charges after police said he defaced 'numerous' Tesla vehicles in the Greater Boston area with stickers. The stickers depict an image of Tesla CEO Elon Musk making a straight-arm gesture during his Jan. 21 speech at President Donald Trump's inauguration rally. The movement brought widespread scrutiny, with some interpreting it as a Nazi salute. One Tesla owner recorded a video March 2 of the 39-year-old Roslindale man putting a sticker on his car and confronted him, according to a Facebook post from the Brookline Police Department. 'Why do you think you have the right to do that?' the person recording asked. 'It's my free speech,' the man replied. 'You guys can get a better car,' he continued after the owners said he 'ruined' their vehicle, according to the video. 'You can say whatever you want, you can post whatever you want on social media,' Brookline police Deputy Paul Campbell told WBZ. 'You can't go around damaging other people's property.' The man was arrested March 5 and charged with six counts of defacing property, police said. He is due back in court May 7, authorities said. Brookline is a 6-mile drive southwest from Boston.

Town of Brookline, Massachusetts mulls bringing armed police officers back to schools
Brookline police are considering reinstating school resource officers (SRO), after the district eliminated the program during a national reckoning with police brutality a few years ago. Program eliminated in 2021 "We decided back in 2021 to eliminate the program because we were very concerned about a lot of the national data that indicated that students of color, as well as students with disabilities are more likely to end up being criminalized when police are in schools," said Raul Fernandez, the Executive Director of Brookline For Racial Justice and Equity. Fernandez is a parent in the district who agreed with the unanimous vote by the school committee to get rid of armed police in the school district. He fears for the safety of his child in the presence of police saying, "It's absolutely not necessary and it also puts my kid at risk." "Not a law enforcement role" But according to Brookline police, the purpose of school resource officers is to promote school safety and to enhance the relationships between students and officers. "It's not a law enforcement role," said Paul Campbell, the deputy superintendent at the Brookline Police Department. "It's almost like a teacher, student type role," he said. According to Campbell, SROs are an integral part of the learning experience. Before the role was eliminated, officers taught classes on various topics including internet safety and teen dating violence. But Fernandez says the benefit of those classes don't outweigh the overall risk. A final decision to reinstate school resource officers will come from the school committee. Brookline's superintendent told WBZ they will revisit the topic in the coming months.

She was renting the car at the time and was looking for an environmentally friendly option. She says the experience left her feeling shaken. Recent Tesla vandalism reports There have been other reports of vandalism targeting Tesla products in recent weeks. Tesla CEO Elon Musk endorsed President Donald Trump and is now the head of the president's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). In Littleton on Monday, police said seven Tesla charging stations were intentionally set on fire and the incident is being investigated as suspicious. A Massachusetts doctor told WBZ-TV last month he has been threatened because he drives a gold Tesla Cybertruck. Someone put a profane sticker on the vehicle, and when he posted a photo of it on social media the man told police he started getting threats online.
