Expect traffic distruptions in Walton and Okaloosa counties

FLORIDA (WMBB) – Walton and Okaloosa counties will encounter traffic disruptions as crews perform construction and maintenance activities. According to a news release, all activities are dependent on weather and may be delayed or rescheduled if there is inclement weather. Drivers are urged to be cautious, especially at night when traveling through work zones, and to watch for construction workers and equipment entering and leaving the roadways. Walton County state roads affected: U.S. 331 Resurfacing Project from south of I-10 to U.S. 90 – The week of Sunday, May 25, drivers will encounter the following construction-related traffic impacts: Beginning Thursday, May 29, the U.S. 90 westbound outside travel lane will be temporarily closed, between 11th Street and U.S. 331, in DeFuniak Springs. One U.S. 90 westbound travel lane and one left-turn lane to access U.S. 331 will remain open. Additionally, the U.S. 331 northbound outside right-turn lane has been temporarily closed at the U.S. 90 intersection. Two U.S. 331 northbound lanes are available for left- and right-turn movements to access U.S. 90. This temporary traffic configuration is anticipated to remain in place for 6-8 weeks to provide space for construction activities at the north and southeast corners of the intersection. New traffic signals on U.S. 331 at the I-10 interchange in DeFuniak Springs have been activated – They are currently in 'flash mode,' which includes a yellow flashing signal, indicating that drivers should slow down and proceed through the intersection with caution. The new signal will remain in flash mode for seven days before becoming fully activated with standard green, red, and yellow lights on Thursday, May 29. Western Lake Bridge Replacement Project – Drivers may encounter intermittent County Road (C.R.) 30A lane closures over Western Lake Bridge, Tuesday, May 27, through Thursday, May 29, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for construction activities. During the closures, east and westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane with temporary signals directing traffic through the work zone. S.R. 20 Coring Operation from C.R. 883 (Madison Street) to S.R. 81 – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures on Tuesday, May 27, throughTuesday, June 3, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. for coring operations Okaloosa County state roads affected: Brooks Bridge Replacement Project – Drivers may encounter the following traffic disruptions, Tuesday, May 27, through Thursday, May 29, between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for utility work and construction activities: U.S. 98 alternating lane closures between Ferry Road and Pier Road. Santa Rosa Boulevard alternating lane closures from east of Amberjack Drive to Ross Marler Park. Interstate 10 (I-10) Resurfacing from west of the Yellow River to east of the Shoal River – Drivers will encounter alternating I-10 lane closures between mile markers 50 and 60, Tuesday, May 27, through Thursday, May 29, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for striping operations. I-10/P.J. Adams Parkway Interchange – P.J. Adams Parkway drivers will encounter alternating lane closures between Crab Apple Avenue and Antioch Road, Saturday, May 31 and Sunday, June 1, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Crews will be installing a drainage pipe beneath the roadway. During the work, law enforcement officers and traffic flaggers will be in place to safely direct drivers through the work zone. U.S. 98 Resurfacing from Josie Road to Florida Place Southeast – Drivers may encounter intermittent U.S. 98 lane closures, between Josie Road in Mary Esther and Florida Place Southeast in Fort Walton Beach, Tuesday, May 27 through Thursday, May 29, between 8 p.m. and 5:30 a.m. for signalization work and for crews to place thermoplastic striping. State Road (S.R.) 85 Resurfacing and Safety Improvements from Hospital Drive to U.S. 90 – Drivers may encounter intermittent S.R. 85 lane closures, from Redstone Avenue to U.S. 90, Tuesday, May 27 through Thursday, May 29, from 7:30 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. for paving operations. S.R. 20 Bridge Rehabilitation over Rocky Bayou – Motorists may encounter intermittent lane closures Monday, May 26, through Friday, May 30, from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. for construction activities. FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (WKRG) — Part of Brooks Street will be temporarily closed in Fort Walton Beach on Wednesday, Feb. 5, and Thursday, Feb. 6, according to the Florida Department of Transportation. 'It felt so meant to be': Country music artist says Northwest Florida feels like her hometown According to an FDOT release, underneath Brooks Bridge will be where the closure is in place as crews perform drainage work and reconstruct that section on Brooks Street. Officials said Brooks Street and Florida Blanca Place SE will be placed in a two-way configuration during this time. Drivers will be detoured through Florida Blanca Place SE, First Street and Perry Avenue, according to officials. The closure is part of the $171 million Brooks Bridge Replacement Project that includes constructing two new, parallel bridges to 'increase capacity' to six lanes.
