Brown County Public Health hands out free lead cleaning kits to help families lower exposure risks

GREEN BAY, Wis. (WFRV) – The Brown County Public Health Department handed out free lead cleaning kits to the community on Thursday, in hopes of reducing the exposure risks for young children. In a Brown County Public Health release, the Department said that children under six years old are at higher risk of exposures, and that even a little dust from old paint could be harmful. Menasha community & police officers donate new fishing gear to victims of vandalism Those who live in older homes were especially focused on, specifically due to the risks of old paint, as the free lead kits were handed out at the 'On The Move' Mobile Resource Fair at the Salvation Army from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Each kit provided contained cleaning supplies, step-by-step instructions and information on protecting people from lead poisoning. Ariens Company in Wisconsin recalls over 6,000 snow throwers across U.S. and Canada ahead of largest snow fall of the season

(WFRV) – Brown County Public Health has shared with the public the recall of Ariens Snow Throwers due to a dangerous control lever laceration hazard. According to a Facebook post from Brown County Public Health, Ariens® DELUXE-, PLATINUM- and PROFESSIONAL-series Snow Throwers have been recalled across the U.S., including Wisconsin and Canada. The manufacturers are Ariens Company of Brillion, Wisconsin. Consumers are urged to visit for a list of recalled units. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the impeller and auger assembly of the recalled snow thrower can keep rotating even after the operator control lever is released. The latest northeast Wisconsin weather forecast from Storm Team 5… This creates a laceration risk if a user comes into contact with the rotating parts inside the housing enclosure at the front of the machine. The recalled snow throwers are a bright orange color and come with either rear wheels or tracks. Authorized Ariens dealers nationwide, Ace Hardware, Blain's Farm & Fleet, Do It Best, Family Farm & Home, Mills Fleet Farm, Northern Tool and Equipment, Lowe's and True Value and online at and from August 2024 through October 2024 for between $1,770 and $5,440. No injuries have been reported at this time. The Safety Commission says consumers should stop using the recalled snow throwers and contact Ariens Company or an authorized dealer for a free repair.
