Marge Simpson Died In "The Simpsons" Season Finale
Spoilers — obviously — follow for the season finale of The Simpsons's 36th season.
Dearly beloved: We are gathered here today to celebrate the life of America's most beloved blue-haired, yellow-skinned matriarch.
No, your eyes are not deceiving you: In the Season 36 finale of The Simpsons, Marge Simpson herself straight-up and died. But, of course, there's a catch.
So, part of the episode — which is titled "Estranger Things" — takes place in the future, and depicts Bart and Lisa Simpson (Marge's children, in case you've been alive on this Earth and aren't familiar with the characters in the freaking SIMPSONS) dealing with Marge's death.
At one point, Bart and Lisa even envision Marge smooching in heaven with Ringo Starr (who is very much still alive in real life, for what it's worth). This is a clear callback to the Season 2 episode "Brush With Greatness," which reveals that a young Marge had a crush on Ringo.
Anyway, long story short — The Simpsons showed its audience a dead Marge Simpson, but Marge Simpson isn't actually dead. And if you find that confusing, well, here's how people online reacted:
Rest easy, everyone — she'll be back. Marge never left!
