A growing local barbecue joint is getting a new space of its own. Slab Kitchen will take over the former Tempe Taco space at 7360 E. Main St. in Reynoldsburg. The 6-year-old eatery has spent almost the last four years running the kitchen inside Eastside Brewing at 1421 Davidson Dr. GET TO KNOW YOUR CITY Find Local Events Near You Connect with a community of local professionals. Explore All Events Slab co-owner Bryan Nelson said they hope to open in the new brick-and-mortar space in early June. It's still at Eastside Brewing in the meantime. 'Eastside has been very welcoming, very supportive,' Nelson said. But as the barbecue business has grown in popularity, it's in need of more space, particularly in the kitchen. Nelson said the larger kitchen in the new space will allow Slab to expand its menu. What those new additions may be is something Nelson and his brother and co-owner Terron Nelson are keeping under wraps for now. 'We're going to be able to experiment more,' Bryan Nelson said. Slab also will have a full bar of its own, which will be another way the Nelsons will be able to express their creativity as well as another revenue stream for the business. The Nelsons left their jobs six years ago to launch their food truck. 'We knew we needed to be 100% focused on this business,' Bryan Nelson said. They found a home inside Eastside Brewing in 2021. The Reynoldsburg craft brewery opened that year and is an offshoot of Buckeye Lake Brewery, now one of the region's longest-operating craft breweries. 'Slab's going to do great in their new space,' Eastside and Buckeye Lake owner Rich Hennosy said. Ribs are the specialty at Slab, be that the 'fall-off-the-bone' baby back ribs, available in multiple sizes, or the Rib Dip sandwich which is its take on a classic French dip but using rib meat. Slab's top seller is the Slab burger, which is a beef patty with havarti cheese, onion straws and Slab sauce as well as barbecue back rib meat. The eatery serves wings, fries and other sandwiches and burgers, too. Slab's move will open up an opportunity at Eastside Brewing for a growing food operator who'll be able to move into the space's 530-square-foot kitchen. Hennosy said he's scouting the market now for a food concept to move into that kitchen on a permanent basis. 'We're looking for anything that'll go good with our beer,' he said.
