New on Prime Video in June 2025 — 5 movies and shows to stream this month

A new month means many things, but in this specific instance, it means fresh Prime Video titles are coming our way. At the time of writing, Amazon hasn't yet released the streaming service's full June 2025 schedule, so we've tracked down some of the top titles you can look forward to streaming this month ourselves. One of them is "Deep Cover," a new London-set comedy crime caper starring Bryce Dallas Howard, Orlando Bloom and Nick Mohammed. Plus, there's a new adaptation of "We Were Liars" to look forward to, and, in late June, Prime Video is treating us to a "Countdown," an explosive new crime thriller series. Not seeing anything to add to your watchlist? Be sure to check out our round-ups of the best movies and shows on Prime Video for more recommendations. Here are the five new movies and shows coming to Prime Video in June 2025 that I think you should consider adding to your watchlist. "American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans" is a feature-length documentary that recounts NASCAR's 2023 endeavor to complete the centenary edition of the legendary endurance race with an American stock car. At the time, NASCAR CEO Jim France recruited NASCAR's franchise's most successful team to build, modify, and race the Chevrolet Camaro car in this grueling challenge. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. With the aid of world-class drivers Jenson Button, Jimmie Johnson and Mike Rockefeller, Hendrick Motorsports strove to turn the car into a vehicle capable of rising to the occasion. And in this new release, you can learn all about this story of innovation and determination on Prime Video. Stream "American Thunder: NASCAR to Le Mans" on Prime Video from June 12 If you're looking for some adrenaline-pumping entertainment, Prime Video's upcoming crime thriller "Countdown" has you covered. Created by Derek Haas (exec producer of the "One Chicago" and "FBI" franchises), "Countdown" is a new action-packed show that sees an undercover team enter a race against time to save the lives of millions living in Los Angeles. LAPD detective Mark Meachum ("Supernatural", "The Boys") is drafted into the secret task force after a Department of Homeland Security officer is murdered in broad daylight, and the hunt for the killer uncovers a far more sinister plot. Expect stunts, shoot-outs and more, and look forward to the series' three-episode premiere this June. Stream "Countdown" on Prime Video from June 25 "Deep Cover" is my most anticipated Prime Video release of the month, as the combination of an off-beat pitch (comedians go deep undercover) and the core cast involved makes for a winning combo. Tom Kingsley's upcoming comedy follows three improv comics — teacher Kat (Bryce Dallas Howard) and her students (Orlando Bloom and "Ted Lasso" star Nick Mohammed) — as they accept a dangerous mission from a London undercover cop (Sean Bean). Together, they're dispatched to infiltrate London's gangland, using their "skills" to impersonate dangerous criminals. Everything I've seen so far suggests it's gonna be a fun time, and I can't wait to see what's in store. Stream "Deep Cover" on Prime Video from June 12 "Head Over Heels" is a new Prime Video K-drama billed as a combination of "heart-fluttering romance with supernatural intrigue." The series revolves around Park Seong-A (Cho Yi-hyun), a high school student leading a double life: by day, she's a normal pupil, but by night, she's a powerful shamaness. Her life takes a surprising turn when she crosses paths with a handsome new transfer student, Bae Gyeon-U (Choo Young-woo), who suffers from an unlucky fate. Park Seong-A sees a vision that suggests his death is imminent, and, after falling head over heels for the new boy, she vows to save his life. Stream "Head Over Heels" on Prime Video from June 23 "We Were Liars" is an adaptation of E. Lockhart's bestselling YA novel of the same name that follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman (Emily Alyn Lind) and her inner circle, called the Liars. The Sinclairs are New England royalty, known for sharing an enviable bond, for good looks, and for their wealth. But after her life is changed by a mysterious accident, it seems that everyone Cadence knows, including her beloved Liars, has something to hide. Excited to see the book brought to life? Look forward to binge-watching "We Were Liars" in June, as all eight episodes are being dropped at once. Stream "We Were Liars" on Prime Video from June 18

Summer TV preview: a slope-set drama from the creator of ‘Succession,' Adam Sandler and a bad Xenomorph await

As seen this spring, the small screen was an exciting place to be. There was that dangerous and engrossing luxury hotel chain, a rebellious underground faction, the ultimate high-stress hospital and, just this weekend, the harrowing second chapter in a post-apocalyptic fungal zombie tale came to a grisly conclusion. As the dog days of summer await, streaming platforms will continue to vie for viewers' attention – and penchant for social media sharing – as they unveil new series, documentaries and movies. A list of the most notable follows, set for release between Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends: From Jesse Armstrong, the creator of 'Succession,' this film will again showcase the coming together of influential, powerful people – 'presidents of tech' portrayed by the likes of Cory Michael Smith, Steve Carell, Jason Schwartzman and Ramy Youssef – during a moment of stark worldwide economic turmoil. Much like Armstrong's acclaimed series, the vibe here is very high-stakes and full of intrigue. Is this a TV movie or just a movie? Who knows! What is certain is that this fun-looking entry looks to take the premise of 'Barry' one step further by placing students of improv into a tense undercover police situation where 'Yes, and' can equal life or death. Led by Bryce Dallas Howard, the film, which is available exclusively for a streaming audience, also features Orlando Bloom and 'Ted Lasso' standout Nick Mohammed. Sally Ride had the distinction of being the first American woman to fly in space, but this documentary dives much deeper than that superlative to explore the late astronaut's life as a whole, giving a more complete picture of just how much she was up against as she became a public figure in the space race of the 1980s. This saucy-looking series will explore the adventures at the Mitford Sisters, a real-life troupe of siblings in 1930s England, who managed to turn heads and make headlines long before the reality stars of today. This new animated movie about a girl group who secretly hunts monsters brings together three somewhat disparate things into a combination that's hard to pass up: the beguiling world of K-pop, colorful animation and supernatural demon hunters. What's not to love? Not to be confused with this spring's 'G20,' in which Viola Davis played the POTUS going into action star mode, 'Heads of State' puts forth a similar premise. John Cena and Idris Elba play world leaders who thwart a global threat alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Jack Quaid and Stephen Root. Netflix's 'The Old Guard,' released way back in July 2020, was a diverting pandemic-era actioner featuring Charlize Theron as a fierce warrior fighting for good – who also just so happened to be immortal – and the young protégée (Kiki Layne) she brings under her wing. Who do they square off against in the new sequel? The inimitable 'Kill Bill' star Uma Thurman. Good answer. 'Girls' wunderkind Lena Dunham makes a grand return to the small screen with a new series billed as an 'ex-pat rom-com for the disillusioned,' according to an official synopsis. Meg Stalter (Kayla in 'Hacks') stars as a workaholic New Yorker in London who meets and falls for an unlikely British suitor (Will Sharpe of 'White Lotus' Season 2 fame). The series also features Rita Wilson and newcomer Aylin Scott. The Madea machine continues with this latest installment, the thirteenth film in the Madea cinematic universe. Here, Perry as the straight-talking Madea boards a plane for the Bahamas with family for nuptials that may not be exactly what they seem. Get ready for Madea to get to the bottom of it. Adam Sandler and Netflix have already partnered on many a project, and that deal shows no signs of stopping. This sequel to the beloved and oft-quoted 1996 comedy – one of the movies to truly launch Sandler as a household name – welcomes back his hockey player-turned-gifted golfer along and his nemesis Shooter McGavin, played by Christopher McDonald. Get ready for some slimy thrills as the creature who made us scream in space brings the terror back home. From writer-director Noah Hawley, who has successfully taken on properties from Marvel ('Legion') and the Coen Brothers ('Fargo'), this new take on Ridley Scott's dangerous xenomorph extraterrestrials builds a sprawling world where monopolizing mega-corporations might be the worst threat of all. Already reuniting with her 'MobLand' costar Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren leads a group of rowdy retirees who have a knack for solving cold-case murders. Among the sleuthing seniors is Oscar-winner Sir Ben Kingsley, 'Better Things' star Celia Imrie and Richard E. Grant, of 'Loki' and 'Can You Ever Forgive Me?' fame.

Underrated Horror Movie of the Month: THE VILLAGE

Hey, horror fans! Welcome to another edition of Underrated Horror Movie of the Month. Every month, on the second and fourth Fridays, I come here to discuss a horror film that I feel is underrated and underloved. No subgenre, corner of the Earth or decade is left unchecked in the search for the most underrated movies. In this edition, I present the 2004 M. Night Shyamalan film The Village . Stick around to find out why I think this one deserves more love. About The Village This movie tells the tale of an isolated 19th-century village. The residents fear the things that live in the surrounding woods. This fear is the cause of stringent rules, one of which prohibits people from being outside after dark. The monsters pose a significant threat to the townspeople, who live in constant terror. RELATED: Underrated Horror Movie of the Month: Fright Night 2011 As Ivy (Bryce Dallas Howard) breaks some rules for love, as people sometimes do, a terrible truth is revealed. A truth that will change Ivy's life forever. Regardless, she is determined to learn more, no matter the cost. The Village stars Bryce Dallas Howard, William Hurt, Sigourney Weaver, Joaquin Phoenix, Adrian Brody, Brendan Gleeson, Cherry Jones, Celia Weston, Judy Greer and others. M. Night Shyamalan wrote and directed the film. The runtime is one hour and 49 minutes. This movie has a 43 percent Tomatometer Score and a 57 percent Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes. It also has a 6.6/10 on IMDb. My Thoughts As always, I dove through copious amounts of online reviews to determine why some viewers do not like the movie. I sorted through comments on not enjoying anything by Shyamalan since The Sixth Sense, some that did not give a definitive reason, and more denoted the acting. However, two reasons kept resurfacing. Many viewers seem to have found the movie dull and unrealistic. Here are my thoughts on this reasoning. RELATED: Glass Spoiler Review What is or is not dull varies from person to person. The first time I watched this movie, I stayed on the edge of my seat the entire time. Plus, that twist ending? Come on. Shyamalan is known for his crazy twist endings, and this one falls right into line. Admittedly, it doesn't hold up once you know what's coming, so rewatches are not as enjoyable. Regardless, the first viewing gave me that creepy feeling of wondering what exactly was going to happen. As for unrealistic, here is the way I look at it. Some horror movies are meant to reflect things that COULD happen, but others are not. Take most of the infamous slashers, for example. All but one are immortal. With every Shyamalan movie I have seen, I did not get the impression that it was intended to be super realistic. In most cases, it is a scenario that has the potential to be based on actual events but is largely what all fiction movies are: a story. RELATED: Geek Girl Authority Crush of the Week: Ellen Ripley The Village boasts an incredible cast. There are some characters I wish they had explored more, but overall the acting is top-notch. Unfortunately, it is impossible to truly explore every character and allow for excellent development of each within the space of an average-length film. To do that would require many hours on a single story. Final Thoughts In terms of my general opinion, if you enjoy movies by Shyamalan, you will likely have fun watching this one, but if you are not a fan of his, it will be hit or miss. If you have not seen it yet, it is streaming on Peacock. Give it a try and then come back here and let me know your thoughts in the comments. If you have seen it, I want to know, did you like it? If not, why? Hit up the comments! Until next time, horror fans, stay spooky and watch more horror movies. Before you go, check out the trailer for The Village below.

Pets on Disney+ is the rare documentary for children, about children

Pets, directed by actress Bryce Dallas Howard, is a documentary that seeks to convince viewers to support and develop a love for animal rescue. PHOTO: DISNEY+ Pets on Disney+ is the rare documentary for children, about children NEW YORK – Most documentaries are not really aimed at children. The film world seems to think they are interested in only animated movies about, frequently, talking pets. If a documentary is for families, on the other hand, there is a good chance it involves wildlife. But Pets (2025) on Disney+ remixes all of that. It is a documentary about the title subjects and their humans, aimed at and largely populated by children. Directed by Hollywood actress Bryce Dallas Howard, it is a sweet-tempered film that celebrates the animals people love and seems to have a secondary purpose too: to convince viewers to support and even develop a love for animal rescue. Howard accomplishes this by taking a kind of segmented approach. Adorable children give studio interviews about their own pets – their names, their characteristics, the ways they seem to understand the children's emotions. These are interspersed with home videos, largely the kind of vertical ones you might catch on a social media feed: dogs doing tricks, cats smirking and pigs waddling around . Then there is a series of mini-documentaries about people who work with animals, especially rescues or otherwise traumatised creatures. Among those subjects are Sterling 'TrapKing' Davis, a rapper who is a contagiously enthusiastic cat guy; Rodney Stotts, a master falconer who dedicates his work to both the birds and local children; and Shinobu Takahashi, who runs the no-kill shelter Dog Duca in Nagoya, Japan. I don't think anyone inclined to watch Pets really needs convincing that animals are cool and that people should like them. But this focus on rescuing those that are, for whatever reason, in harm's way is rather lovely. And to Howard's credit, the theme is integrated seamlessly into the celebration of life alongside animals, which might broaden the viewership but certainly will plant a seed of interest in youthful viewers. What struck me about the movie was an influence I have not often considered when thinking about documentaries. The segmented structure and varied style in Pets felt familiar, and about halfway through, I realised I was thinking of Sesame Street, on which generations of kids have been raised. That show also has its own varied style and structure, broken up by different types of film-making, such as interviews with children, fun kid-on-the-street clips and short documentaries about ordinary things that are somehow fascinating, including observational footage from factories that make crayons or saxophones. Kids are actually interested in the real world around them, the ordinary things they encounter, and curious about how everything works. Documentaries are good at feeding that curiosity, at giving children a peek into worlds they cannot necessarily access on their own. Pets is engineered to make a child not just want a pet if he or she does not have one, but also want to find one that needs a home and some love. And in that way, Pets serves up entertainment and something for its young audience to consider. NYTIMES Pets is available on Disney+.
