Charleston edges Monmouth 79-78 in OT in Coastal Athletic Association Tournament quarterfinal
Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — Ante Brzovic had 22 points and Derrin Boyd scored four of his 16 in overtime to lead Charleston to a 79-78 victory over Monmouth on Sunday night in a Coastal Athletic Association Tournament quarterfinal. The third-seeded Cougars (24-8) will play No. 2 seed UNC Wilmington in a Monday semifinal. Top-seed Towson squares off against No. 12 seed Delaware in the other semifinal. AJ Smith had 12 points in the first half to lead Charleston to a 34-33 advantage at the intermission. Brzovic scored 18 in the second half and his layup with 17 seconds left sent the game to OT tied at 72. Boyd made two foul shots with 13 seconds left in the extra period to put the Cougars up by three. Jaret Valencia had a layup in the final second for Monmouth. Brzovic also snagged eight rebounds for the Cougars. Smith had 17 points. The sixth-seeded Hawks (13-20) were led by Abdi Bashir Jr. with 24 points and four assists. Jack Collins added 15 points and six rebounds. CHARLESTON, S.C (AP) — Ante Brzovic scored 27 points and Derrin Boyd added six of his 24 points in the overtime as Charleston defeated Elon 88-83 on Saturday night. Brzovic made the first of two free-throw attempts to force overtime tied 71-all. Boyd shot 1 of 2 from the field and 4 of 4 from the free-throw line in the extra period. Brzovic added 10 rebounds, five assists, and three steals for the Cougars (19-6, 9-3 Coastal Athletic Association). CJ Fulton had 14 points. Nick Dorn led the way for the Phoenix (15-10, 6-6) with 21 points, eight rebounds and two steals. Sam Sherry added 19 points and six rebounds for Elon. TK Simpkins finished with 17 points. Charleston entered halftime up 44-36. Brzovic paced the team in scoring in the first half with 11 points. ___

(AP) — Ante Brzovic had 24 points in Charleston's 66-63 victory against North Carolina A&T on Thursday night. Brzovic also added nine rebounds for the Cougars (18-6, 8-3 Coastal Athletic Association). Justas Stonkus scored 12 points and added five rebounds. Jahnathan Lamothe led the Aggies (4-20, 0-11) in scoring, finishing with 15 points, nine rebounds and three steals. N.C. A&T also got 14 points from Jalal McKie. Camian Shell had 12 points. The loss is the 10th straight for the Aggies. Stonkus put up seven points in the first half for Charleston, which led 31-29 at halftime. Boyd scored Charleston's last six points. Charleston's next game is Saturday against Elon at home, and N.C. A&T visits Campbell on Monday. ___
