Buccaneers Meet with Tampa-Raised QB Ahead of NFL Draft

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and general manager Jason Licht have been praised for their moves in the first wave of free agency. Licht and the Bucs have kept important pieces from last season while adding some talent from the outside to better the roster ahead of the upcoming NFL Draft, which begins April 24 in Green Bay. Advertisement Tampa Bay is set at the quarterback position as Baker Mayfield enters the second season of his three-year, $100 million deal signed last offseason, and backup Kyle Trask enters his fifth season in the league with a fresh one-year, $2.8 million deal that he signed earlier this month. The Bucs also have former Tulane passer Michael Pratt, who will most likely play as the team's emergency QB this season. But competition is always good ... for everyone. And in that spirit, the Bucs met with a local kid for a pre-draft workout. Aaron Wilson reported that former Texas State Bobcats quarterback and Tampa native Jordan McCloud has met with the Buccaneers. Advertisement "Texas State @TXSTATEFOOTBALL quarterback Jordan McCloud strong Pro Day throwing session for Day 3 #NFLDraft2025 prospect Met with #Patriots #Buccaneers #Jets afterward Sun Belt Player of Year Previous: South Florida, Arizona, JMU Career: 10,135 yards, 88 touchdowns, 38 interceptions. 986 rushing yards, 20 touchdowns" Wilson also mentioned there were several other teams present for his Pro Day. Buccaneers Free Agent Signing Shows Highest Potential

Teams' seasons can be made or broken during the free agency period of the offseason prior, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are no exception. While Tampa Bay has been active in re-signing their own, general manager Jason Licht has also been praised of for one major signing from the outside. Advertisement Licht and the Bucs signed free agent linebacker Haason Reddick to a one-year, $14 million deal with $12 million guaranteed. Reddick is expected to bolster the pass rush that was lacking last season. Pro Football Focus calls the move the best by the team this offseason. "Reddick's past year has been a blur, from his trade to the New York Jets to his lengthy holdout to now," PFF wrote. "But the 30-year-old undeniably has the talent to shred opposing offensive tackles, and the Buccaneers are banking on that." "Reddick instantly becomes Tampa Bay's most feared edge rusher for 2025, bringing four straight seasons of double-digit sacks and a 12th-ranked 88.5 PFF pass-rush grade from 2020 to 2023." Advertisement Reddick posted just one sack last season across 10 games with the New York Jets. But that's not indicative of the two-time Pro Bowler's talent. Before last season, Reddick rattled off a string of four straight seasons of 12.5, 11, 16 and 11 sacks, showing his pass rush potential. In New York last season, he sat out the first seven games of the season after being traded somewhere he had no interest in playing. But he chose the Bucs and is happy to be in Tampa Bay. "I'm excited. I'm excited to be here. I'm excited to be in front of the crowd. If anything, I can't wait to get in front of the Krewe," Reddick said in his introductory press conference. "I want to hear the cannon go off a lot this year. So, very excited. Hope the fans, hope the Krewe is excited as well. Looking forward to making this a great fit here." Bucs Select ACC Edge Rusher in Latest NFL Mock Draft

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers and general manager Jason Licht have already improved the pass rush this offseason, and they look forward to further improving it in next month's NFL Draft. Licht added veteran free agent Haason Reddick earlier this offseason with a one-year, $14 million contract. Advertisement But that doesn't mean the Bucs are done. This is one of the deepest edge rush drafts in recent memory, and there will be ample opportunity to add some talent and depth to the unit in April. In his most recent Mock Draft at senior writer and editor Scott Smith thinks the Bucs will make a huge addition with the No. 19 overall pick on April 24 in Green Bay. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: EDGE Donovan Ezeiruaku, Boston College "In that edge rush debate noted earlier about raw athletic talent versus proven production, I think Todd Bowles and the Buccaneers' staff would lean to the latter. He might not be as stout against the run as some edge prospects, but the Buccaneers already have several players in their rotation who fit that bill. Ezeiruaku is a 6-2, 248-pound pass rusher who racked up 16.5 sacks last season, his second season with at least 8.5. He has a well-developed arsenal of moves and a good bend to get around the corner. Advertisement "With the free agency acquisition of Haason Reddick and now this addition, the Bucs could quickly turn a weakness (edge rush production) into a strength." Second-year interior defensive lineman Calijah Kancey led the team last year with 7.5 sacks. That's not good. Yaya Diaby led the team in 2023 with the same total.
