Who did PFF rank as the Bucs best rookie in the last 20 years?
Who did PFF rank as the Bucs best rookie in the last 20 years? Since its inception, Pro Football Focus has proven to be one of the more valuable tools for fans, media, and teams. They have forever changed the way the game of football is seen and analyzed. Just as the forward pass, wildcat offense, or jump pass changed things, analytics has left its mark on the NFL, and it got the folks at PFF thinking back on their history. They looked back and looked at each team's highest graded rookie since 2006, and for the Bucs, the name they had was one fresh in Bucs fans' minds. Bucky Irving was a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft and had mild expectations of being behind Rachaad White. Over the course of the season, Irving eventually carved out a role and earned the highest PFF grade as a rookie in Bucs history, a 90.8. They wrote about Irving saying, "Irving didn't have as much volume as other top running backs early in the 2024 season but was a workhorse down the stretch, leading the NFL in yards after contact per attempt (3.93) and forcing 62 missed tackles in the process. He earned elite PFF grades as a runner (90.0) and a receiver (90.5) for the NFC South champion Buccaneers." Irving now comes into his sophomore season as the lead back in a Bucs offense that is expected to be more explosive than it was in 2024. Both he and the Bucs hope he can meet heightened expectations.

Analyst sheds light on forgotten star of Bucs offense from the 2024 season
Analyst sheds light on forgotten star of Bucs offense from the 2024 season Bucky Irving was the breakout star of the Bucs offense in 2024 and quickly became a fan favorite in the process. Everyone was able to enjoy the Bucs offense, but there was an unsung hero that some analysts are finally shining some light on. Steve Palazzo and Sam Monson of the Check the Mic Podcast discussed the second-year outlook of every first round draft pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Of course, Bucky Irving was not a first-round pick but rather a value in the fourth round. The Bucs' first-round pick was Graham Barton, who played tackle at Duke but moved to center with the Bucs. Both Palazzo and Monson praised the work of Barton, saying, 'If you go back and watch Bucky Irving's highlight reel, Graham Barton is at the center of a lot of those plays.' They also fairly mentioned that Barton has some growing to do in 2025. Despite the good and the bad, there is no denying the growth that Barton showed in one year despite making such a drastic position change is encouraging. Ironically, the Seahawks are banking the same sort of change after drafting North Dakota State tackle Grey Zabel 18th overall in the 2025 NFL Draft who is expected to play center for them.

Dan Lanning sends blunt message to Oregon recruits regarding NIL
In an age where high school stars can ink six-figure deals before taking a college snap, Oregon head coach Dan Lanning isn't afraid to speak bluntly about what comes next. 'I don't need you walking in with a chain that says Taylor on it. We can just have a T, man,' Lanning said with a laugh, referring to his approach when talking NIL with recruits. Behind the humor is a serious message—players at Oregon aren't just learning football, they're learning how to manage life-changing money. Advertisement The Ducks finished with the No. 4 overall recruiting class in 2025, and the average NIL valuation of those signees? $214,000. That kind of money makes Lanning's financial literacy push more than a talking point—it's essential. From day one, Oregon brings in professionals to educate players on budgeting, taxes, and long-term planning. Lanning said the goal is for players to 'feel comfortable having that conversation with us,' ensuring they don't go broke chasing quick clout. Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning Smith/Indianapolis Star / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images Lanning's philosophy isn't just theory—it's producing real results. He recently caught up with former Oregon running back Bucky Irving, who was drafted by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and signed a deal worth nearly $1.2 million per year. Irving shared how he's saving, investing, and learning from lessons that started in Eugene. 'Sometimes, a mistake is a great lesson,' Lanning said. 'You want them to learn from it… so they can have a long-term future because of it.' In a college football world obsessed with short-term gain, Dan Lanning is playing the long game. His message is simple: be smart with your money, and your future will thank you. Buccaneers Dynamic Duo Ranks As Best in NFL
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers emerged as one of the NFC's best teams last season, and that was largely due to the run game led by rookie Bucky Irving and veteran Rachaad White. With White the starter to begin the season, it became evident early on that Bucky was going to be the lead horse, and the rookie took charge of the run game en route to a superb first season (1,122 yards, eight touchdowns). Advertisement Under Irving, White, and Sean Tucker, the Buccaneers averaged a crisp 146.5 rush yards per game, with the trio all contributing to the offense's progress. Now, entering the 2025 season, Ivring is expected to continue his ascension, with the help of White and Tucker. For CBS Sports, in ranking all running back rooms, Tampa Bay unexpectedly is in Tier 1, called "dynamic duos." "They were casually fourth in the NFL in rushing yards in 2024, thanks largely to the arrival of Bucky Irving," CBS Sports wrote. "The fourth-round pick hit the ground running to begin his pro career, logging 1,514 yards from scrimmage with 1,122 of them coming on the ground. Behind him, the Bucs have Rachaad White, who registered 1,006 yards from scrimmage and nine total touchdowns last season, giving the unit some high-quality depth." Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield (6) hands off to running back Bucky Irving (7) during a game.© Nathan Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images With Josh Grizzard taking over from Liam Coen as offensive coordinator, the Buccaneers are expected to lean on Irving and Co. to establish the offense and, in turn, help Baker Mayfield put up points for fun, much like last season. Advertisement We get the sense that Irving will be the straw that stirs Tampa Bay's drink in 2025, and after a superb rookie season, it is easy to envision him taking another leap in Year 2. With an abundance of weapons in the passing game that includes Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, Cade Otton and now the drafted Emeka Egbuka, Ivring, White and Tucker might see favorable looks in the run game. And that is nightmare fuel for defenses trying to game plan to stop the embarrassment of riches at Grizzard's disposal, which we think, has Irving as the centerpiece.
