census' is where guests spend the night atop 'machaans' with a forest official, and count the number of animals they spot.
It's always held on a full moon night on Buddha Singh Hada, deputy conservator of forest who is in-charge of UKTR, said, "The two were in a playful mood and their curiosity had taken them up the 'machaan', something which tigers never climb. But it's typical of this age ground of tigers, between one to 1.5 years-old, they are always looking for adventure, exploring their surroundings and this 'machaan' must have attracted them."Hada said the incident occurred in Gothangaon area of UKTR. "The tree was slightly slanted and the 'machaan' unoccupied, hence these two climbed up. Had it been occupied, then these young ones would have never gone there," said guests also did not complain about the "encroachers" and were happy to have got the best sighting. Hada said, "These guests were accommodated in another 'machaan'."The joke currently going around in the forest department is, whether the two tigers have submitted statistics for their 'machaan census'!
