'Let Bibi go': Trump says US is 'not going to stand' for Netanyahu's prosecution
President Donald Trump lashed out at Israeli prosecutors over the corruption trial facing Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, saying the United States having given billions in aid to Israel is "not going to stand for this." Netanyahu was indicted in 2019 in Israel on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust – all of which he denies. The trial, which began in 2020, involves three criminal cases. He is scheduled to return for cross examination Monday after several delays over the COVID-19 pandemic, Israel's war with Hamas and other conflicts in the region. "How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a Courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (Cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc.). It is a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT, very similar to the Witch Hunt that I was forced to endure," Trump said on June 28 in a post on Truth Social. Netanyahu thanked Trump in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. "Together, we will make the Middle East Great Again!" he said. Israel's main opposition leader Yair Lapid criticised Trump's statement, saying he should not "intervene in a legal process of an independent state," the BBC reported. Trump said the trial complicates negotiations with both Iran and Hamas. The United States targeted several nuclear sites in Iran after Israel launched an air war on June 13 and tensions erupted between the Middle Eastern nations. Hamas attacked Israel out of Gaza on Oct. 7, 2023 and is still holding hostages, while Israel has unleashed strikes on the strip for nearly two years. "It was the United States of America that saved Israel, and now it is going to be the United States of America that saves Bibi Netanyahu,' Trump said in a separate post earlier in the week. "THIS TRAVESTY OF 'JUSTICE' CAN NOT BE ALLOWED!" This article originally appeared on USA TODAY: Trump says US is 'not going to stand' for Netanyahu's corruption trial

Trump calls Netanyahu corruption trial a ‘political witch hunt'
WASHINGTON — U.S. President Donald Trump strongly defended Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Saturday, denouncing his ongoing corruption trial as a 'political witch hunt' that threatens to undermine key negotiations involving Iran and Hamas. 'It is terrible what they are doing in Israel to Bibi Netanyahu,' Trump wrote on Truth Social. 'He is a War Hero, and a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring Great Success in getting rid of the dangerous Nuclear threat in Iran.' The U.S. president also cited Netanyahu's role in negotiations to secure the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas, questioning why the Israeli leader 'can be forced to sit in a Courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (Cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc.).' Trump likened the proceedings against Netanyahu to his own legal battles, calling the Israeli prosecution 'INSANITY' and warning that it could 'interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations.' 'The United States of America spends billions of dollars a year, far more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this,' Trump added. 'LET BIBI GO, HE'S GOT A BIG JOB TO DO!' Trump had previously urged Israeli authorities to dismiss Netanyahu's case altogether, citing his wartime leadership and recent Israeli military victories. The Israeli prime minister is currently on trial in three separate corruption cases—known as Cases 1000, 2000, and 4000—filed in 2019. He is accused of bribery, fraud, and breach of trust, charges he vehemently denies. The trial, which began in May 2020, has seen Netanyahu become the first sitting Israeli prime minister to take the stand as a criminal defendant. Under Israeli law, Netanyahu is not required to resign unless convicted by the Supreme Court, a process that could take many months. Separately, Netanyahu also faces charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity, after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant against him and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant in November for alleged atrocities in Gaza, where more than 56,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, have been killed since October 7, 2023. On Friday, Israel's Attorney General rejected Netanyahu's request to delay his trial for two weeks, after the prime minister claimed he needed to focus on national security matters following recent Israeli strikes on Iran and efforts to return hostages from Gaza. — Agencies

Israeli PM Netanyahu's "Make Middle East Great Again" Call After Trump's Support On Corruption Trial
Tel Aviv: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu thanked US President Donald Trump for extending support over the corruption trial against him, as he pleaded to "make the Middle East great again" with the American leader. This came after Trump once again lashed out at prosecutors in Israel over the corruption trial that Netanyahu has faced, saying Washington, having given billions of dollars worth of aid to Israel, was not going to "stand for this". "Thank you again, Donald Trump. Together, we will make the Middle East Great Again," Netanyahu wrote in a post on X. The Israeli Prime Minister was indicted in 2019 in Israel on charges of bribery, fraud and breach of trust -- all of which he denies. The trial began in 2020 and involves three criminal cases. On Friday, an Israeli court rejected a request by Netanyahu's lawyers to delay his testimony for the next two weeks because of diplomatic and security matters following the 12-day conflict between Israel and Iran this month. He is due to take the stand on Monday for cross-examination. What Trump Said Trump on Saturday (local time) defended Netanyahu and said his corruption trial was a "political witch hunt". In a post on Truth Social, he also said it was "terrible" what they are doing to Bibi, a nickname for the Israeli Prime Minister. "It is INSANITY doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu. He is a War Hero, and a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring Great Success in getting rid of the dangerous Nuclear threat in Iran," Trump said, asserting that the judicial process was going to interfere with Netanyahu's ability to conduct talks with Palestinian group Hamas, and Iran. The 79-year-old noted that Netanyahu was in the process of negotiating a Deal with Hamas, which will include getting the Hostages back. "How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a Courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (Cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc)," he wrote. He also called it a "political witch hunt" and said it was "very similar" to the one that he was "forced to endure". Trump was convicted on 34 counts of falsifying business records in May 2024 in a case related to hush money payments to adult actress Stormy Daniels. "This travesty of "Justice" will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations. In other words, it is INSANITY doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu," he said. "The United States of America spends Billions of Dollar a year, far more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this," Mr Trump said."We just had a Great Victory with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu at the helm - And this greatly tarnishes our Victory. LET BIBI GO, HE'S GOT A BIG JOB TO DO," he added. It was Trump's second post over the course of a few days defending Netanyahu and calling for the cancellation of the trial went a step further to tie Israel's legal action to US aid. On Thursday, Trump said he was "shocked" to hear that Israel, which is "strongly" led by Netanyahu, is continuing its "ridiculous" witch hunt against their "great wartime" Prime Minister.

Trump defends Netanyahu as Israeli PM faces corruption charges, hints at Hamas negotiations: ‘He's got a big job to do'
President Donald Trump on Saturday declared that the United States would "not stand by" as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to face prosecution on corruption charges, while hinting at Israel's negotiations with Hamas. In a post on Truth Social, Trump extended his support to Netanyahu and wrote, 'It is terrible what they are doing in Israel to Bibi Netanyahu. He is a War Hero, and a Prime Minister who did a fabulous job working with the United States to bring Great Success in getting rid of the dangerous Nuclear threat in Iran.' He added, 'The United States of America spends Billions of Dollar a year, far more than on any other Nation, protecting and supporting Israel. We are not going to stand for this. We just had a Great Victory with Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu at the helm — And this greatly tarnishes our Victory. LET BIBI GO, HE'S GOT A BIG JOB TO DO!' The US President also claimed that allegations against the Israeli Prime Minister will have an impact on Iran and Hamas negotiations. 'This travesty of 'Justice' will interfere with both Iran and Hamas negotiations. In other words, it is INSANITY doing what the out-of-control prosecutors are doing to Bibi Netanyahu,' he said. Calling the case against Netanyahu a 'political witch hunt,' Trump stated, 'How is it possible that the Prime Minister of Israel can be forced to sit in a Courtroom all day long, over NOTHING (Cigars, Bugs Bunny Doll, etc.). It is a POLITICAL WITCH HUNT." On Friday, an Israeli court denied Prime Minister Netanyahu's request to delay his testimony in his ongoing corruption trial, stating that he failed to present sufficient grounds for the postponement. In one of the cases, Netanyahu and his wife, Sara, are alleged to have received over $260,000 in luxury items—including cigars, jewellery, and champagne—from wealthy businessmen in return for political favours. In two other cases, Netanyahu is accused of attempting to negotiate more favourable coverage from two Israeli media outlets.
