Bhubaneswar will launch direct flight services to Abu Dhabi starting June 2025, under the Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) initiative. The airport is undergoing a major infrastructure upgrade, with construction of a third terminal underway to manage increasing passenger traffic. At present, the airport has two terminals—Terminal I for domestic and Terminal II for international travellers. Together, they handle around 5 million passengers annually. Once Terminal III is operational, the capacity is expected to increase to 8 million. The city's domestic connectivity has expanded in recent months. Bhubaneswar: International flight service from Bhubaneswar to Abu Dhabi will commence from June this year, the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said on Thursday. The flight service will be launched under the Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network (B-MAAN) scheme. Indigo will run the flight service on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday every week from Biju Patnaik International Airport. Abu Dhabi is the capital city of the United Arab Emirates. 'From Temple City to Global Gateway! From June 2025, #Bhubaneswar will take flight to Abu Dhabi under the #BMAAN initiative–powered by the transformative #NewDestinationPolicy,' the CMO said on X. It will be a major stride toward connecting the State with the world-boosting tourism, trade, and global prospects for a 'viksit Odisha'. The Chief Minister has thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for steering this landmark aviation push. The B-MAAN scheme and new destination policy is paving the way for enhanced air connectivity with more flights for Odisha, the CMO said. While presenting the annual budget for the year 2025-26, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi had announced the launch of B-MAAN programme to strengthen aviation infrastructure in the State. The comprehensive programme envisions the modernisation and expansion of airports across the State to meet growing demand, including the establishment of a greenfield airport at Paradip. Under this initiative, the State has targeted to commence direct flight services to 10 new domestic destinations and 3 new international destinations, significantly enhancing Odisha's air connectivity. Under the Odisha New Destination Policy-2024, the government is providing financial assistance to bridge the gap between operational costs and expected revenue for air travel services. An allocation of Rs 382 crore has been made to support aviation infrastructure development and enhance air connectivity in Odisha.

Puri greenfield airport to be built over 1,164 acres at Rs 5,631cr: CMO
Bhubaneswar: A day after the Centre granted in-principle approval for a new greenfield airport in Puri, the chief minister's office on Tuesday said the facility, to be named Shree Jagannath Airport , will be developed over 1,164 acres of land at an estimated cost of Rs 5,631 statement said construction of the airport will take place in three phases. Once completed, it will have the capacity to handle 4.6 million passengers annually. The development will boost regional connectivity, drive economic growth and make Puri more accessible to pilgrims and civil aviation ministry had granted in-principle approval to greenfield airports in Puri and Kota on Monday. Following the approval, the CM expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union civil aviation minister K Ram Mohan Naidu in a post on Monday, the ministry, in an official statement, said that Puri, one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in India and home to Lord Jagannath, attracts millions of devotees and tourists from across the country and the world."This airport will be able to enhance the direct connectivity between Puri and major metropolitan cities in India. This decision marks an important milestone for Puri and Odisha and is in line with the govt's commitment to strengthening last-mile air connectivity and making air travel accessible to all," read the govt had submitted an application along with the techno-economic feasibility study (TEFS) report and other requisite documents to the ministry in 2023 for the grant of site clearance for the development of a greenfield airport at the same year, the ministry granted site clearance approval to the state govt. In Oct 2024, the state govt submitted another application for the grant of 'in-principle' approval along with a detailed project report and other requisites to the proposed airport is being developed as per the Greenfield Airport Policy, 2008, under which the responsibility for implementation of the project, including land acquisition and funding, lies with the developer concerned or the state a related development, the CMO on Tuesday also announced direct flights between Bhubaneswar and Visakhapatnam from June under the B-MAAN (Building Management of Aviation Assets and Network) initiative. "From temple city to coastline — Odisha spreads its wings of progress," the statement read.
