West Aussie DJ to play at ‘floating festival' in Europe

An education assistant at Bunbury Catholic College has been selected to DJ at a week-long 'floating festival' in Croatia. Last month Liam Northcroft, also known as DJ Noshboy, got the call up to attend Yacht Week — an exotic sailing celebration in August held off the Dalmatian coast which includes historic islands, medieval towns, secret bays, sailing regattas and a plethora of party venues. The 25-year-old was selected for the event on the back of winning last year's Your Shot DJ competition, which offers the winner a rare opportunity to perform at one of the world's biggest music festivals. Northcroft said he was 'fulfilling every DJ's dream' by taking his talents to an international stage, which he hoped would be a launchpad for his performing career. 'I still can't believe it,' he said. 'I'm just a guy from Bunbury going overseas to DJ in a different country and do what I love.' Originally pursuing a career in rapping, Northcroft switched the microphone for the headphones and mixer about four years ago due to the COVID-19 pandemic — when festivals he was scheduled to perform at such as Groovin' the Moo were cancelled 'I've always had a thing for music,' he said. 'Once the clubs started opening, I was like, 'you know what, I can give DJing a go.'' Northcroft said he fell in love with creating the 'vibe and environment for people to just go out and have a good time'. 'I'm almost like a walking Shazam — the song comes on and I know it.' The aspiring full-time DJ also has a passion for the classroom, working as an education assistant for the past two years in Bunbury. He said the work didn't feel like a job, as he loved helping put students 'on the right path'. Northcroft has utilised his DJ talents at the Year 11 semi-formal and Leavers Week and is set to play at the Year 12 ball. 'The kids really get enjoyment out of it ... they pretty much danced from start to finish and loved it,' he said. Northcroft said he was regularly asked about his side gig in class and he hoped his journey offered some inspiration. 'It's great to tell the kids that you can strive for anything that you want,' he said. 'If you have the dedication and you can manifest it hard enough, it'll happen.' Northcroft said during COVID he believed he had missed his chance to become a rapper. 'I just thought 'that's it, it's the end, that's my shot gone,' he said. 'But I'm glad I found something else. 'I was like 'I'm going to do this, I'm going to show Perth what a boy from Bunbury can do.''

South West Careers Expo a hit at Bunbury Catholic College with career pathways on show

South West students got the chance to explore future career pathways at the 16th annual Careers Expo on Wednesday. Hosted by Bunbury Catholic College, the free event had more than 2500 people and 21 WA schools in attendance to view the 61 stalls, which provided different career pathway options and ideas. BCC's vocational education and training coordinator Michael Downes said the event was a success and included a sensory session for the first time. 'It's an event where we can pull in kids from all the schools in the region, because otherwise there is nothing unless you travel to Perth and not everybody can do that,' he said. 'It works well to be able to bring not only local businesses, training organisations and TAFEs, but also universities, residential colleges and bigger workplaces from Perth that will come down and support our kids.' Mr Downes said the event 'always gets good, positive feedback' and this year was no exception. 'As the years are going, we're gaining a greater variety of exhibitors, and I think people are now realising there's literally something here for everybody,' he said. 'I want it to be not just a school event, but a whole community event. 'I'd love to see in 2026 more community people thinking 'maybe I could still go to university'.'

Guess who! Aussie TV veteran looks unrecognisable as she shares wild throwback photo

She's the Bunbury-born star who appears on Channel Seven. The mother-of-two has been in the public eye since she was 21 and part of the same show for more than 20 years. The brunette stunner shared a throwback on Thursday... but can you tell who this young woman with a perm is today? The picture was unearthed from a high school photo album containing the TV star's Year 12 portrait. Her curly-hair was voluminous, with the 17-year-old sporting a fresh-faced look and wearing a crisp white shirt and tie. This local celebrity has previously shared her embarrassment about the hairstyle with her 117,000 followers on Instagram, writing: 'Peter Brady? ?? No.. Me in 1985. Bunbury Catholic College. Age of the perm. And the pimple.' She launched her journalism career at the Wanneroo Times in 1987 and landed her first TV gig at 21 on WA's Golden West Network. She joined Seven News in Sydney as a reporter in 1994 and also presented afternoon news updates, before moving to Sunrise in 2003. The successful media personality now juggles 3am wake-ups with motherhood for her role on the hit breakfast show. Married to TV commercial editor Andrew Thomson, the mystery TV newsreader is Natalie Barr. Natalie appears alongside Matt 'Shirvo' Shirvington, Mark Baretta, Edwina Bartholomew, and Sam Mac weekdays from 5.30am on Seven's Sunrise. 'Is that you or me Nat?' Kylie Gillies asked her colleague on Thursday. Natalie's yearbook photo was first shared on the show back in 2018, when she was co-hosting alongside Samantha Armytage. 'You were a very handsome little girl,' Samantha said as she burst into hysterical laughter. 'Stop laughing Sam!' Nat said as her desk mate mocked her teenage looks. The Golden Bachelor host added an additional barb for good measure. 'You don't want to be too pretty too early,' Sam said, to which Nat hit her co-star with her papers repeatedly as she laughed along. Natalie wed her husband Andrew in 1999. The Sydney-based couple share two sons: Lachlan and Hunter James. Natalie also addressed the perm in a Sydney Weekend interview in 2022 when she was asked to describe her biggest fashion faux pas. 'Thirty years on TV… where do I start!?' the TV veteran began. 'The perm in the 80's… I looked like some kind of dorky poodle.
