Man Utd and Spurs turn attention to Arsenal-linked Roma centre-back
Manchester United and Tottenham are both interested in Roma centre-back Evan Ndicka, who has already caught the attention of Arsenal, according to reports. The 25-year-old defender has long been linked with a move to the Premier League, even before he joined Roma from Eintracht Frankfurt in 2023. The Ivory Coast international instead moved to the Italian capital on a free transfer, signing a five-year contract. Since then he has become a key figure in the Roma starting XI, making 85 appearances in just two seasons, scoring once. Ndicka was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season in his final year with Frankfurt and in the Serie A Team of the Season this season with Roma. As Roma finished fifth in Serie A and had to settle for a return to the Europa League, the towering central defender continues to be linked with a move. Arsenal were linked with a move earlier this year, but were reportedly informed that Roma had no intention of letting Ndicka leave. That has not quelled speculation and reports from France – where Ndicka was born – have linked Manchester United and Tottenham with possible bids this summer. The report from RMC Sport, via French Football Weekly, states that Ndicka is valued at as little as €40m (£33.7m). However, that seems improbably low given the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Newcastle United have also been touted as interested parties. If Roma were to sanction a move then there would likely be a bidding way and Ndicka would have his pick of a string of huge clubs. In a recent interview with L'Equipe, the Ivorian refused to be drawn on rumours surrounding his future and insisted he remained fully committed to Roma. 'I'm not pretending that I don't see the rumours,' Ndicka told the French publication last month. But I have respect in Rome and I respect them 'I have three years remaining on my contract, we will see what happens later.' Manchester United are expected to have an extremely busy transfer window, both in terms of incomings and outgoings. More Trending Central defence is not their top priority, with both signings and sales in attack top of the to-do list. Their transfer budget and pull in the market was hampered badly by their defeat to Tottenham in the Europa League final, which saw Spurs grab the spot in the Champions League for the forthcoming season. Spurs are now expected to invest heavily, but first they must appoint a new manager after the sacking of Ange Postecoglou. Brentford boss Thomas Frank is expected to be hired as the Australian's replacement. Jeremie Frimpong's response to career ambitions shows reason he joined Liverpool
Jeremie Frimpong completed his £29.5million move to Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen last week, with the Dutchman now on his way to fulfilling his dreams of reaching the pinnacle of football Jeremie Frimpong once voiced his career ambitions as a teenager, showing why he chose to join Liverpool and how he has become a top player in recent years. The Reds completed their signing of the wing-back from Bayer Leverkusen last week after activating his £29.5million buyout clause. The Netherlands international penned a five-year contract with the newly-crowned Premier League champions. He is seen as the successor to Trent Alexander-Arnold, who was unveiled as a Real Madrid player just hours before Frimpong's announcement, while also providing competition at right-back for Conor Bradley. Under the guidance of fellow countryman Arne Slot, the 24-year-old will look to reach new heights after being named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season twice. Frimpong became a standout player while playing a pivotal role in Xabi Alonso's Leverkusen team, achieving an unbeaten domestic double in 2023/24 where he scored 14 goals and provided 12 assists in 47 matches. His move to Anfield marks a return to English football after leaving Manchester City six years ago, having joined the Etihad side at the age of 10 but failed to break into the first team. He then signed for Celtic in September 2019, enjoying an 18-month spell before switching to Leverkusen in January 2021. During his spell in Scotland, Frimpong didn't shy away from expressing his lofty ambitions, which have taken him to where he is today. Aged only 19, he announced to the world that he wanted to win football's biggest individual and team accolades, a testament to the character Liverpool have added to their ranks. In a 2019 interview with the Mail, Frimpong boldly stated: 'I want to be the best player there is. I want to play for the biggest team ever. I want to win the Champions League. I want to hold the World Cup. I want to win as many trophies as I can.' With Scottish Premiership and Bundesliga titles already under his belt, helping Liverpool retain their Premier League title and conquering Europe would certainly edge Frimpong closer to his dreams. The Dutch contingent at Liverpool, which includes Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch, is expected to ease Frimpong's transition to life on Merseyside. He even acknowledged looking up to Van Dijk, his compatriot and Liverpool captain, during his time at Celtic. Frimpong said at the time: 'Look at Virgil van Dijk. There's the example. Played for Celtic; four years later, he nearly wins the Ballon d'Or at Liverpool. He was so close. So can I be the best player there is? Yeah, I think I can be.' Upon joining Liverpool, Frimpong told 'It (the transfer) went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer. 'For me, it was like, 'Whatever you guys do, just get this done.' [Speaking to] my agents, 'Just get this done.' Liverpool fans, I'm going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate. "Hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. I'm just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me and I won't let you guys down, and I'll give you the energy that you guys want.' Man Utd transfer blow confirmed as Bayern Munich win race for defender
Manchester United have suffered a transfer blow after Bayern Munich announced that defender Jonathan Tah is joining them on a free transfer. The Red Devils were locked in a race with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona Munich for Tah's signature in the summer transfer window. But Tah is now officially heading to Bayern Munich with the Germany international signing a four-year deal after his exit from Bayer Leverkusen. 'I'm very happy to be at Bayern,' Tah said. 'I want to take on responsibility here and work hard every day so that we're successful as a team and win lots of trophies together.' Tah, who has earned 35 caps for Germany to date, will now be playing with the likes of Harry Kane under the management of Vincent Kompany. Bayer Leverkusen, meanwhile, are set for a new era after their manager Alonso joined Real Madrid on Sunday. Former Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag has signed a two-year contract to succeed Alonso at the German club. Ten Hag, who will start his new role on July 1, has said Leverkusen are 'one of the best clubs in Germany and also among the top clubs in Europe'. He added: 'I've come to Leverkusen to continue with the ambition shown in recent years. 'It's an attractive challenge to set up something together in this period of change and develop an ambitious team.' The Dutch manager has been out of work since United sacked him in October 2024. More Trending During his time at Old Trafford, Ten Hag helped United win the 2023 Carabao Cup and 2024 FA Cup. Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes said: 'With Erik ten Hag, we have brought in an experienced coach with impressive success on the pitch. 'With three league titles and two domestic cup wins, he and Ajax dominated Dutch football from 2018 to 2022. 'And Erik demonstrated his quality as a coach with the ensuing success at Manchester United under difficult circumstances at times.' Man Utd enter race for 'quality' £25.5m defender in summer transfer window
Man Utd are 'actively considering a move' for Jonathan Tah (Picture: Getty) Manchester United have positioned themselves as contenders to sign 'quality' Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah, according to reports. Tah, who is valued at €30m (£25.5) by Transfermarkt, will become a free agent in the summer transfer window once his current contract expires. The Red Devils are in race to land the 29-year-old centre-back's signature, though, with Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Barcelona all tracking him. The Germany international helped Bayer Leverkusen clinch the Bundesliga title and DFB-Pokal trophy last season under head coach Xabi Alonso. Tah was named in the Bundesliga Team of the Season last term and has also made the Europa League Team of the Season on three occasions. Alonso spoke incredibly highly of Tah last week, declaring him 'perhaps the most consistent player' at the club in their remarkable 2023-24 campaign. 'There is clarity – we can talk about his future,' Alonso said. 'Since the start of the season, he was very clear in discussions. Jonathan Tah has been 'very clear' he wants to leave Bayer Leverkusen (Picture: Getty) 'His attitude, his quality, his professionalism – he was perhaps the most consistent player in our squad this season. He played excellently. And he deserves to decide about his future.' United are 'actively considering a move' for Tah at the end of the season, Sky Sports reported on Wednesday. Tah has been at Bayer Leverkusen for the last 10 years – playing 399 games for the Bundesliga side to date – but is seeking a new challenge. Jonathan Tah has earned 35 international caps for Germany (Picture: Getty) He's earned 35 caps for Germany so far and was named in their squad for Euro 2024. Bayern Munich tried to sign Tah last summer but were unable to agree a deal with Bayer Leverkusen. They would be an attractive option for Tah this summer if the player wishes to continue his playing career in the German top-flight. Real Madrid, meanwhile, could be in a perfect position to land Tah given that Alonso is expected to become the club's new manager. More Trending Barcelona's mission to land Tah is more complicated with the club believed to be dealing with financial constraints impacting player registration. Tah may decide to test himself in the Premier League instead – with a move to United very much a possibility at the end of the current campaign. Meanwhile, United are closing in on a deal to sign French starlet Enzo Kana-Biyik on a free transfer. The 18-year-old is out of contract at Le Havre this summer with United moving quickly to snap up the talented forward.
