Fairport man celebrates birthday with Bishop Kearney blood drive
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A Fairport resident partnered with Bishop Kearney's National Honor Society students for a special blood drive on Friday. To celebrate turning 50 years old on May 16, Rick Knapp collaborated with his son's school, Bishop Kearney High School, to give back to others. Alongside his son, he hopes to encourage at least 50 individuals to donate blood to the American Red Cross. Salvation Army celebrates Day of Caring with 'Bundles of Hope' 'The American Red Cross has played a prominent role in my life and the lives of family and friends,' Knapp said, 'This is my way to try and give back a little more.' As an alternative way to engage those who were unable to donate blood, the school's National Honor Society participated by holding a dog and cat food drive. According to Meals on Wheels, many who receive assistance from the service also share their food with their pets. Knapp is also one of the volunteers who delivers pet food with Meals on Wheels of Monroe County. The program ensures that recipients and their pets have enough food. Salvation Army celebrates Day of Caring with 'Bundles of Hope'
ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC)— On Friday, Salvation Army volunteers and community members joined together for the organization's Day of Caring event. The Drop-Off reception on Friday morning was held at The Salvation of Greater Rochester, located on 100 West Avenue. Over a dozen groups and local businesses participated in the day of giving back to the Rochester community by bringing together items collected towards the 'Bundles of Hope' initiative for individuals in need. United Way breaks record on 31st annual Day of Caring Each 'bundle' is equipped with essentials not commonly donated. Organizers said the donated items are critical in supporting individuals in the process of going from unhoused to living in a new environment. Additionally, the Salvation Army provides important resources for those struggling in their current residences. This week, the organization also observed National Salvation Army Week.
