Firefighters bring two-house Essex fire under control as smoke remains
A BLAZE that engulfed two semi-detached homes in Mayland has been brought under control by fire crews from five stations.
Residents in the area have been asked to keep their windows closed as the properties continue to produce smoke.
An investigation is set to be carried out tomorrow morning to determine the cause of the fire.
The fire on Katonia Avenue was first reported at 4.22pm and was extinguished and under-control by 7pm.

Incident commander Dan Wastell said: "Crews have worked hard and the fire is now under control.
"It is two semi-detached houses which are fully alight. There is still a lot of smoke coming from the incident so if you live in the area please keep your windows and doors closed."
Crews from Burnham, Maldon, South Woodham Ferrers, Witham and an Aerial Ladder Platform from Chelmsford were in attendance at the incident.
Additional crews from Rochford and Tollesbury were also requested for support.
