Racers ready for 2025 Bowman Gray season after NASCAR partnership

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WGHP) — The regular season at Bowman Gray kicks off Saturday with the Hayes Jewelers 200. The Winston-Salem short track expects to have some new fans after NASCAR ran its exhibition race, The Clash, there in February. NASCAR entered into a partnership with Winston-Salem in March of last year and took over operations at the track, while also investing in the infrastructure and safety, which are all benefits the weekly modified races will have this season. When the green flag drops Saturday, Bowman-Gray Stadium will shine like a new penny. 'This time of year is always exciting for everyone in the community with Bowman Gray starting back up, and we got a little taste at The Clash,' driver Burt Myers said. The shine is more than just the spotlight NASCAR shone on the historic track during the NASCAR Cup series Cookout Clash in February. The lights are much brighter. 'I am looking forward to the lighting. I got to drive the Cup car under the new lighting, and it was phenomenal. It looked like it was daylight, and that was something we get to enjoy from now on,' driver Tim Brown said. Crashes at the bullring won't be as hard anymore. The special padded and reinforced SAFER barriers NASCAR requires remain. 'How cool is it that NASCAR is revamping the place and bringing it back to modern times? It's really cool,' Brown said. The barriers may add a new variable to the racing. 'I am sure at some point during some division, it's going to come into play that we lost a couple inches,' Myers said. They did take down the catch fence that fans did not like. Even though the track has some new paint, lights and barriers, it's staying true to its roots as a cost-friendly family option. 'I think that's what the stadium has done so well is keeping the prices down for families to be able to afford to do it not just once a month but four times through the season,' Brown said. Tickets for adults are $12, kids between 6-11 cost $2, and anyone younger is free. That's one of the reasons Bowman Gray will welcome thousands of people all season long. 'We have diehard fans who put it on the calendar,' Brown said. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.
