We toured the making of Busch Gardens Tampa's newest land, Wild Oasis
TAMPA — We took a hard-hat tour Wednesday of Busch Gardens' newest land, Wild Oasis, now under construction for a spring opening. In an area that used to house the now-closed Jungala realm of tree-top climbing next to animal exhibits, the Wild Oasis aims to blend entertainment, exploration and education into one lively rainforest-themed space. Among the coming attractions: A reimagined drop tower: Previously, Jungala had a ride called Wild Surge that launched riders from a 35-foot crater above a waterfall. It was aimed at younger children and offered mild thrills. The new 35-foot drop tower ride is called Tree Top Drop, with multimedia. It will be enhanced with advanced digital and sound effects for an exciting yet approachable ride experience, designers said. Kids will need to be 38 inches tall to ride with an accompanying adult, or 42 inches tall to go solo. A multi-level Canopy Climb: An interactive play structure perfect for adventurous explorers with 200 feet of horizontal climbing trails and vertical climbs reaching 50 feet high, according to the park. A multi-species animal habitat: Offering up-close encounters with animals, including giant anteaters, called capybaras, squirrel monkeys and tropical birds in a multi-level, multi-species habitat called Habitat Hideaway. A kid's water play area: A new cooling off area called Enchanted Falls will have a splash pad, spray towers and fountains. Here are more of the pictures from Wednesday's hard-hat tour. Wild Oasis is set to open this spring.
