PGA Championship golf course invaded by a snake as latest Quail Hollow hurdle slithers in
Golf's elite have been tested to the limit at the second Major of the year with a tough course and mudballs. Wary PGA Championship stars faced a sneaky and slippery new challenge at Quail Hollow with snakes on the planes. Golf' s elite have been tested to the limit at the second Major of the year with a tough course and mudballs. During the first-round, tournament leader at that stage Ryan Gerard had to be cautious as he approached his ball beside the 14th green as a snapping turtle sat lurking. In the midst of the second round, players had to display caution down the fairway as a snake made it's way towards them. A tournament official was quickly onto the scene and he began trying to nudge the creature out of the way with foot and encourage it off the course. As he did so, Sky TV commentator Ewen Murray was taken aback by the actions as he recounted some advice from a legendary golf coach and broadcast sidekick Butch Harmon when he said: 'That fella obviously knows exactly what this [snake] is because no-one in their right mind would get that close. "I remember what Butch Harmon said many years ago. Never trust anything without shoulders.' Dame Laura Davies added: "He's going to eat that ball. He thinks it's an egg!" At the Gerard moment, Sky TV commentator Henni Zuel noted a small head popping up out of grass and enquired if that, too, was a snake. However, former PGA champion Rich Beem, who was sharing broadcasting duties at that point, quickly set the record straight as he stated: 'That's a snapping turtle. That will rip your finger off!'
