As season nears, Spirit adds Mexican national team star Rebeca Bernal
With less than two weeks until it takes the field for the first time this year, the Washington Spirit is still making moves. The Spirit on Tuesday announced the signing of Mexican defender Rebeca Bernal on a three-year deal. Bernal, 27, won four titles in eight seasons with C.F. Monterrey and has made 68 appearances for the Mexican national team. She captained Mexico at last year's Concacaf W Gold Cup, where her side beat the United States for the first time in 14 years, and earned Best XI honors for the tournament.
