The CAF Young Reporters Programme concluded successfully on Friday in Accra, Ghana, during the third day of the CAF African Schools Football Championship. The programme, which forms part of six other CAF Capacity Building programmes is supported by Canal+, and will see four selected graduates being afforded an exciting Internship opportunity and the giant media house in France next year. The CAF Young Reporters Programme is a flagship initiative under CAF's broader strategy for youth development. It aims to nurture the next generation of African storytellers who will shine a spotlight on the continent's talent and unique football culture. CAF's Director of Communications, Mr. Luxolo September, attended the final day of the programme in Accra and engaged with the young reporters, sharing insights into the industry and encouraging them to embrace the opportunities ahead being provided by CAF. 'This programme is about more than just journalism—it's about telling the African story through African voices,' said September. 'We are proud to continue working with Canal+ to offer these young individuals a pathway into the professional world. These are the storytellers of tomorrow, and CAF is committed to supporting them every step of the way.' Further details on the Canal+ internship selection process will be shared by CAF in due course.

Boys U-15 National Team Coaches speak ahead of Opening Day

The CAF African Schools Football Championship officially gets underway on Wednesday, 23 April with a total of eight (8) national teams in both the Boys and Girls U-15 age categories taking each other on for continental honours. Ahead of the much-anticipated kick-off, all teams attended a press conference to preview their chances in the four-day competition. The CAF African Schools Football Championship Ghana 2025 will take place at the University of Ghana between 23 – 26 April, with matches broadcast live on CAF's Official YouTube channel, CAF TV. This is what the Boys U-15 national team coaches had to say ahead of the opening matches: Boniface Pawassa – Tanzania Coach (Defending Champions) 'We understand that the pressure is on us as the defending champions and as a team, we accept the challenge. We worked hard last season to clinch this title and this year will be no different as this is a team that is just as hungry to lift the title' Zungu Hassan – Uganda Coach This is a big stage for our team. It is first of all an honour to be here and with that said, we aim at proving that we deserve to be at this stage of the competition and competing against the best teams from across Africa' Selekedi Mogale – South Africa Coach 'For us it is an opportunity to create history, which gives us a title of being underdogs which is very nice. So its our chance to build, learn and rebuild. So we are quite excited not only for the chance to challenge for the trophy but to display our identity, display our progress and who we are and assert ourselves, not just for South Africa, but for COSAFA' Mohammed El Mahdi Behadid – Algeria Coach 'We understand what is at stake but we are also excited about affording our young players such an exciting opportunity to express themselves. This is a great opportunity for us to test ourselves and measure our progress against the best teams on the continent' Ousmane Diop – Senegal Coach 'The continent knows and respects Senegal as one of the strong football nations in Africa. We obviously want to sustain this image even at this level but it is equally important for us to understand that this is an opportunity for us to learn and assess our growth. The emphasise is on doing well as a nation and ensuring that the talent pipeline continues for Senegal'. Amien Desire – Cote d'Ivoire Coach 'We have an important task ahead of us of representing a football nation like Cote d'Ivoire. The boys know and understand what it means to wear a Cote d'Ivoire national team jersey and the pride that they need to carry themselves with. It will not be an easy tournament of course, but we believe we can do well in representing our nation'. Kwaku Danso – Ghana Coach 'Well we saw the draw and know who and what we are up against. We are the hosts of the tournament and that naturally comes with the pressure to perform. We want to do well but at the same time, what is key for us is to ensure that we create an environment for our boys to express themselves freely and get a feel of what it is like to represent the national team at an important tournament such as this one'

This is what the Girls national team coaches had to say ahead of the opening matches: Kintu Mwera – Uganda Coach 'We know what is at stake at this stage of the competition. We are playing against zonal champions who come with the same goal that we have of representing out nation. It will be a tough competition but we are ready to represent our nation' Bridget Chirwa – Malawi Coach 'For us to get here is a great achievement but the work has only begun. We need to go out there and truly represent our nation and region. This is a tournament that young players all want to play in, and we need to show that we deserve to be here' Ntombifuthi Khumalo – South Africa Coach (Defending Champions) First of all, we must thank CAF for organising such a great tournament that caters equally for young girls. Women's football has a bright future in Africa. Regarding the tournament, we head into it knowing that we have a title to defend, and we believe we can do just that but it will not be easy knowing that we are the team to beat' Nadia Jilaidi – Morocco Coach 'Morocco has set up a number of academies that have produced good quality young women footballers. We are working hard to ensure that we represent our country well and this tournament is a great platform for us to showcase what Morocco has to offer when it comes to youth and women's football' Amadou Jatta - The Gambia 'We certainly have the belief that we will do well. We are not taking anything for granted because these are the best teams that we will be facing. We have a duty to represent out people and country well and this tournament gives us that opportunity against the best teams on the continent' Danha Severin Rhino - Benin Coach 'There is a great desire for us to do well in this competition. The team is working hard and is here to compete and do our nation proud' Joyce Boatey Agyei - Ghana Coach 'There is no pressure. We must understand that football at this level is about affording talent an opportunity to play and express themselves. Equally so, we know the importance of doing well and we will not take that for granted in anyway. The team know s that they have to enjoy themselves but bear in mind that they are representing a football loving nation like Ghana'
