Ghana, Tanzania crowned CAF African Schools Football Championship champions in Accra
History was made at the University of Ghana on Saturday, 26 April as Ghana's U-15 Girls team and Tanzania's U-15 Boys team were crowned champions of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals following thrilling final matches in Accra. Ghana's U-15 Girls delivered a spirited performance in front of an electrified home crowd, defeating Uganda 2-0 to lift the continental title in their debut appearance at the Finals. Their victory marks a proud moment for Ghanaian youth football, showcasing the nation's bright future on the African stage. Meanwhile, Tanzania's U-15 Boys successfully defended their title, overcoming a strong Senegal side in a dramatic penalty shootout after a fiercely contested 0-0 stalemate. The tournament, held at the University of Ghana from 23 to 26 April 2025, brought together the best young talents from across Africa, celebrating excellence, unity, and the transformative power of football. The successful conclusion of the four-day competition which marks is third successive season was attended by CAF President, Dr Patrice Motsepe alongside Ghana Head of State, His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama who jointly handed over the titles to both teams. The Ghana Boys U-15 also secured a podium finish on Saturday after overcoming Uganda in the third-place play-off, while former champions in the Girls division, South Africa also secured a bronze medal after edging Morocco 2-1. Saturday's final marks yet another successful season of Africa's largest schools football competition and continues to form a key component to achieving CAF President, Dr Motsepe's bold vision of Making African Football Globally Competitive and Self-sustaining. CAF African Schools Football Championship: Team Profile - Benin (Girls)
Benin will be the second team to represent the WAFU B Zone at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals along with Zonal champions, Ghana. Despite falling short of lifting the title that was won by Ghana, Benin will also be at the Accra finals as a result of them finishing second in the qualifiers behind Ghana, who by virtue of being hosts, gain automatic qualification. This marks Benin's second appearance at the continental finals after their 2022-23 debut in Durban, South Africa during the inaugural edition where they went out in the group stages. They were on that occasion represented by General Education College Colby, who had been victorious in the zonal qualifiers. Benin head to Accra with determination and a willingness to prove that they are one of the best teams on the continent. Moustaliratou Yessouffou will be key for Benin in goals. The young shot-stopper was voted Goalkeeper of the Tournament during the WAFU B qualifiers and will be hoping to continue with her impressive form. Asamoah Gyan, Clementine Toure to assist with CAF African Schools Football Championship, Ghana 2025 Draw
Published: Monday, 14 April 2025 As excitement builds ahead of the much-anticipated CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals in Ghana, CAF has confirmed African legends Asamoah Gyan and Clementine Toure as assistants for the Official Draw on Monday, 21 April in Accra. The CAF African Schools Football Championship, Ghana 2025 will take place in Accra between 23 – 26 April. Ghana's Gyan and Toure from Cote d'Ivoire will be handed the responsibility of assistaing with the draw of the third edition of Africa's largest school's football competition continental finals. Also present at the draw will be Abedi Pele, Adjoa Bayor (both Ghana), Robert Kidiaba (DR Congo), as well as Amanda Dlamini (South Africa), who alongside Gyan and Toure will play a supporting role to the participating teams throughout the competition. The CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals mark the culmination of another impactful season of the innovative youth football competition, and will see eight (8) nations in both the Boys and Girls Under-15 age categories contesting for continental honours. Running parallel to the four-day competition will be various CAF Capacity Building Programmes that have been uniquely designed in a bid to develop future African talent that is equally able to lead both on and off the pitch. South Africa are the current holders of the CAF African Schools Football Championship Girls U-15 title, after clinching it in a closely contested encounter against Morocco in Tanzania last year. The Boys U-15 title is held by Tanzania, who lifted the trophy in front of their supporters last year, following their win over Guinea. Winners of both the Boys' and Girls' competition will each receive USD 300 000 prize money, with the runners-up receiving USD 200 000 and bronze medallists USD 150 000 to be utilised for development projects within schools. A donation of USD 10-million was granted by the Motsepe Foundation at the launch of the CAF African Schools Football Championship in 2022. Ghana Zonal Union: WAFU B Previous Appearances: First-Time Participants Ghana will be first-time participants at the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals on home soil after failing to qualify in the previous two editions. The Ghanaians qualified by right as hosts for the present edition of which mark an exciting third edition since its 2022 inaugural edition. Their third-place appearance in the WAFU B qualifiers, however, was encouraging. As hosts, Ghana enter the finals as firm favourites to triumph, looking to leave a memorable mark in front of their home fans in Accra. They were the top-scoring team across the WAFU B qualifiers, having amassed an impressive seven goals in the tournament. The tournament also offers a dashing platform for Ghana's ace player, Acquah Ignatus Gyril, who became the top scorer in the WAFU B qualifiers with three goals.
