Cape Town City's PSL status still in the balance after derby stalemate with Stellenbosch FC
Cape Town City's Haashim Domingo battles away against Stellenbosch FC in the Western Cape derby at DHL Stadium on Saturday. Picture: BackpagePix Cape Town City's Betway Premiership fate is no longer in their hands. They have run their race and finished on 27 points - one point above the relegation zone. But instead of celebrating after their goalless draw with Stellenbosch FC in the Western Cape derby at the DHL Stadium on Saturday afternoon, they will have to wait until the SuperSport United and Golden Arrows replay 45 minutes - effectively one half - of their abandoned clash due to loadshedding back in February. SuperSport United are a point behind City on 26 points after losing 2-0 Richard Bay, but still have their get out of jail card available after the PSL's ruling last week. Stellenbosch, meanwhile, have secured third place after Arrows beat Sekhukhune United 3-2, to ensure Steve Barker's team will compete in the CAF Confederations Cup again next season. Stellies reach the semifinals of the continental competition in their first effort this season. City may yet rue not taking advantage of a host of opportunities in the Cape derby with Gabriel Amato creating an early chance with a right-footed volley skimming the Stellenbosch crossbar. The Citizens' desperation was evident as they continued to pour forward in search of a much-needed goal. Experienced midfielder Thulani Serero also found space on the edge of the box, rifling in a shot that forced a double save from Oscar Masululeke. Central defender Gordinho also had an opportunity immediately after the halftime break when his glancing header nestled into the bread basket of the Stellies goalkeeper. But with City foraging forward, they also left themselves exposed at the back, and against a team with the quality that Stellenbosch possess, they were fortunate not to be punished. Stellies weathered the storm and began creating opportunities of their own with striker Ashley Cupido working his way down the right touchline before sending in a good cross that found Andre de Jongh unmarked. The New Zealander headed powerfully in the direction of the City goal, but Darren Keet, who was playing in his 100th match, palmed the ball to safety. Stellenbosch particularly went on the offensive shortly before halftime when Sanele Barnes, Devon Titus and Fawaaz Basadien called Keet into action to make a flurry of saves to keep City's hopes of staying in the Betway Premiership alive. While City will be sitting on tenterhooks awaiting the conclusion of the Arrows-SuperSport United clash that will hopefully be scheduled for this week, Stellenbosch FC can look back at another hugely fulfilling season where they competed valiantly on all fronts. Barker's men reached a first-ever MTN8 final, enjoyed a brilliant CAF Confederation Cup adventure that ran all the way to the semifinals and secured third place in the Betway Premiership yet again.

Kaizer Chiefs chasing THREE attackers from outside South Africa
Kaizer Chiefs are keen to add more firepower to their front line. Here are three names from the African content that they're chasing. Meanwhile, 26-year-old Simba SC attacker Kibu Denis has scored four goals in 12 games in the 2024/2025 CAF Confederations Cup. They face the Moroccan side, RS Berkane, in the final. Perhaps Kibu will put himself in the shop window? He's primarily a left-winger. FIVE foreign stars linked with Amakhosi 26-year-old Ghanaian forward Jonathan Sowah plies his trade for Libyan side Al Nasr Benghazi. He's also got three caps for the Black Stars. Congolese marksman Fiston Mayele broke Orlando Pirates hearts in the Champions League semi-final second leg with a decisive brace; he's got eight goals in 11 appearances in that competition this season. Throughout his career, he has scored 21 goals and supplied four assists from 35 in Africa's premier club competition. Fans would love this rumour to come to fruition. Despite going behind early in the contest, Nabi's Kaizer Chiefs secured what might prove to be a massive point away to Sekhukhune in a 1-1 draw thanks to Glody Lilepo's equaliser deep into first-half stoppage time. It means the Glamour Boys can guarantee an MTN8 place with a win on the final day at home against Polokwane City. However, Polokwane sit two points above Chiefs, although their MTN8 place is already sealed. When is Kaizer Chiefs vs Polokwane? MTN8 crunch time! Chiefs to AXE three popular senior stars Chiefs fans haven't enjoyed the ride this season. Kaizer Chiefs are monitoring a Tanzanian forward Kibu
Kaizer Chiefs are set to be watching a Tanzanian forward called Denis Kibu. The 26 year old has played 12 games in the 2024/2025 CAF Confederations Cup and scored four goals, according to Transfermarkt . Kibu is being coached by Fadlu Davids at Simba SC, and they are in the CAF Confed Cup final against Moroccan side RS Berkane. He joined Simba in 2021, extended his contract in June 2024, with his current deal running until June 2026. So he has a year left on his current contract. This means that Amakhosi will have to negotiate a transfer fee with the Tanzanian giants. This means any potential suitor will have to negotiate a transfer fee with the Tanzanian giants if they are to land his signature. Chiefs are always linked to players that are based in Tanzania because Nasreddine Nabi is very familiar with the league. Meaning that after almost a full season he has a better idea which profile of players could work in the very intense South African to flight league. Fiston Mayele A familiar name for coach Nasreddine Nabi, Mayele shone under his leadership at Young Africans SC, where he bagged 54 goals in 50 appearances. Now with Pyramids FC in Egypt, his goal-scoring instincts and previous connection with Nabi make him a top target. However, Pyramids are reportedly asking for a high fee, which could complicate the deal. Orlando Pirates are also showing an interest in him. Michael Olunga The Kenyan international is one of the most prolific strikers currently active in Asia, scoring 74 goals in 73 matches for Al-Duhail SC in Qatar. While he would bring immediate pedigree to Chiefs' front line. His high salary expectations could be a stumbling block for the club's budget. Jonathan Sowah Currently playing in Libya for Al-Nasr Benghazi, Sowah has emerged as another top African talent on Chiefs' radar. With international experience for Ghana and a reputation for clinical finishing. Sowah represents a viable option if the club wants a powerful, mobile forward suited to PSL intensity. Would Kibu be a good fit for Kaizer Chiefs? Let us know by leaving a comment below or send a WhatsApp to 060 011 021 1. MISSION IMPOSSIBLE: Kaizer Chiefs MTN8 chances
Kaizer Chiefs could secure MTN8 qualification, but a few dominoes need to fall in their favour. Let's take a look. Amakhosi's MTN8 dreams are still in their own hands, but they need to win both of their remaining league matches to guarantee a top-eight berth. They face two tough fixtures; first away to Sekhukhune and then at home against Polokwane. Sekhukhune vs Chiefs kicks off at 15:00 on Saturday, 17 May. Amakhosi host Polokwane on Saturday, 24 May, with kickoff also at 15:00. What are the permutations? Via Elio Mahlase: 'Babina Noko have already qualified for the top 8 and are also in the running to qualify for next season's CAF Confederations Cup. Rise and Shine need a convincing win against Cape Town City to nearly assure their top-eight finish before their last match of the season. For Kaizer Chiefs, their path is straightforward: they must win both of their remaining matches and hope for favourable outcomes. The highest point total they can achieve is 36. However, Magesi FC and SuperSport United could surpass this total if they win all their matches, potentially knocking Amakhosi out of the top eight.' Wandile Duba's season was hit by injuries, but he still managed to churn out impressive performances, matched by a good output of goals and assists. With a full pre-season under his belt, Duba could be one of Chiefs' most important weapons in 2025-2026. What's his best position?
