CDPHE finds measles exposure location in Grand Junction

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KREX) – A gas station in Grand Junction has been the location of possible measles exposure, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) announced Sunday. CDPHE said anyone near the area between 6-10 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, at Love's Travel Stop/Carls Jr., 748 22 Road, might have been exposed to the disease. Symptoms may develop through June 17. The department said anyone exposed should monitor their symptoms for 21 days and try to avoid public gatherings or high-risk settings. Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes and a rash which begins a few days later on the face before spreading. CDPHE said the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine 'provides strong protection.' The Junction location wasn't the only known place exposed to measles in the state. CDPHE said two locations were also found in Colorado Springs The department also said the total cases of measles has reached six after two El Paso County unvaccinated adults were confirmed to have the disease. They are unrelated but were at Denver International Airport around the same time on May 14. Both of them are recovering at home. No Mesa County residents have been confirmed with measles. (EL PASO COUNTY, Colo.) — The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and the El Paso County Public Health (EPCPH) have confirmed two measles cases in El Paso County. Two unvaccinated adults have been confirmed to have measles. The adults are unrelated, but were at Denver International Airport around the same time on Wednesday, May 14. Another individual from Arapahoe County who was a passenger on a Turkish Airlines flight that arrived in Denver on May 13 has also been confirmed positive for measles. The two unvaccinated adults from El Paso and the vaccinated adult from Arapahoe County are all recovering at home. The CDPHE said that based on information, anyone who was in the following locations during the dates and times may have been exposed to measles: Location Date/Time When symptoms may develop Love's Travel Stop/Carl's Jr. 748 Road, Grand Junction Tuesday, May 276 – 10 p.m. Through June 17 Maverick Gas Station 2588 Airport Road, Colorado Springs Wednesday, May 289-11:30 a.m. Through June 18 King Soopers1750 W. Measles is highly contagious and can sometimes lead to serious health problems, but it is a vaccine-preventable disease,' the CDPHE wrote. 'Symptoms include fever, cough, runny nose, red eyes, and a characteristic rash that usually starts several days later on the face and spreads. The measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine provides strong protection.' Monitoring is important, especially for people who have not been vaccinated with the MMR vaccine, which, if given within 72 hours of infection, can prevent infection. Colorado's total number of cases is up to six. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten, or redistributed.

New locations announced for potential measles exposures, brings DIA exposure to 6

DENVER (KDVR) — Public health officials say there are additional locations now known to be potential measles exposure locations, and also that a recent international traveler at Denver International Airport led to three more measles cases. On Sunday, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and El Paso County Public Health announced that two unvaccinated, adult El Paso County residents had confirmed measles cases. Both adults, who are unrelated, were at DIA around the same time on Wednesday, May 14, and both are recovering at home. Measles is very contagious. Here's how to avoid it The health officials reported on Thursday that another Colorado passenger on Turkish Airlines flight 201 that arrived in Denver on May 13 has been confirmed to be positive for measles. The vaccinated adult, who is from Arapahoe County, is recovering at home. CDPHE said that this brings the total number of measles cases associated with an out-of-state traveler who flew while infectious to six. There were four people on the flight who were infected, including three Colorado residents, and two El Paso County residents who were at the airport. Here's where health officials say that individuals may have been exposed to measles. Anyone who was there should monitor for symptoms for 21 days after exposure, and avoid public gatherings or high-risk settings. Location Date/time When symptoms may develop Love's Travel Stop/Carls Jr.748 22 RoadGrand Junction, CO 81505 Tuesday, May 276 – 10 p.m. Through June 17 Maverick Gas Station2588 Airport Rd. It's also the best way to protect yourself, according to health officials. Anyone who was at the locations is asked to immediately contact their health care provider by phone, or call an urgent care or emergency department, where you should explain you've likely been exposed. Calling ahead prevents additional exposures. Measles is a highly contagious disease. Colorado health officials said that measles can spread through the air via coughs and sneezes, and can remain in the air up to two hours after the person has left. The officials said that the measles, mumps and rubella vaccines provide strong protection and is the best protection. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said two more cases of measles have been confirmed in connection with an out-of-state traveler who went through Denver International Airport in May. Officials said the latest cases are two unvaccinated adults who reside in El Paso County. Colorado health officials confirm seventh measles case, on flight with others infected

Colorado health officials have confirmed a seventh case of measles in the state after a vaccinated adult who recently traveled internationally tested positive. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, the infected adult is a resident of Arapahoe County.
