Cyberpunk 2 Moves Into Pre-Production As CD Projekt Red Confirms Almost 100 Developers Are Already Working On It

We might finally be closer to Cyberpunk 2 coming out than the original game was when it was first announced back in 2012. CD Projekt Red recently confirmed that the sci-fi open-world RPG sequel has moved into pre-production with roughly 100 developers currently devoted to the Polish studio's second major franchise. CDPR outlined its current development allocation in its latest report to investors. Formerly known as Project Orion, Cyberpunk 2 is expected to take players back to the first game's bustling LA-inspired Night City as well as to a new hub location that's been described as akin to Chicago. The Witcher 4, meanwhile, currently has 422 developers working on it but isn't expected to ship before 2027. The company also noted that Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty expansion has currently sold 10 million copies, and The Witcher 3 has sold 60 million copies, 10 million of which are from the last five years. Assuming the Ciri-led follow-up doesn't end up hitting until 2028 and Cyberpunk 2 takes five years of additional development after that, we wouldn't see it until 2033, about eight years from now. That might feel like forever, but remember: it was seven years between the first big cinematic teaser for Cyberpunk and its buggy release in 2020. Will things be smoother and faster this time around? Considering CDPR now has lots of experience with both its third-person fantasy and first-person shooter formulas under its belt, maybe! Both franchises are also moving to Unreal Engine 5 and CDPR is involved in other projects as well, however, including a Witcher spin-off codenamed Sirius and a new IP called Hadar. Plus blockbuster game development just keeps getting more complex, expensive, and time-consuming. What took five years to make on PS5 might take even longer on PS6. No wonder, then, that in the meantime CDPR is trying to get the existing Cyberpunk 2077 in front of more people with the Switch 2 port. Unfortunately, despite a next-gen version of The Witcher 3 that came out a few years ago, a Switch 2 edition of that game isn't currently in the works. . The Cyberpunk 2077 sequel finally makes it to preproduction

Once Cyberpunk 2077 worked out its oh-so-many kinks , it was a damn good game. And more is on the way. CD Projekt Red said on Wednesday that its sequel has moved into pre-production. It wasn't a secret that a sequel was in the works. In 2022, CDPR shared a roadmap describing "Project Orion." It would "further develop the potential embodied by [the Cyberpunk 2077 ] universe." That's as clear as you can get without using the word "sequel." Now, CDPR is shedding the codename as development forges ahead. "Several weeks ago, the CD Projekt Red team responsible for the next big game set in the Cyberpunk universe completed the project's conceptual phase," the publisher wrote. "As a result, Cyberpunk 2 — previously known under the codename Project Orion — has progressed to pre-production." Of course, entering pre-production is still a long way from something you can play. Following the fiasco last time, expect CDPR to play it safe and take more time with the final stages. On a related note, CDPR said Phantom Liberty has sold 10 million copies. The massive expansion launched on PC and consoles in late 2023. It's part of Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition , which includes the base game and all the DLC. That version arrived on PC and consoles in 2023. It will be heading to Switch 2 and macOS soon.

Gamers Are Making EA, Take-Two And CDPR Scared To Use AI

GTA 6 This past week, Fortnite introduced an AI Darth Vader using James Earl Jones' voice to respond to players' voice chat. It was goofy fun (and in keeping with Jones' voice rights deal), but AI is not starting to make some large publishers nervous for a few reasons. Jason Schreier has an excellent article over at Bloomberg highlights that recent reports from big companies like EA and Take-Two have addressed the issue, as have others like CDPR. On its surface, it seems like GenAI could be used as a tool in games to produce artwork, voice acting, or even game elements themselves. But these companies are starting to realize the very real risks this poses, both legally and 'reputationally.' Take-Two says that the use of AI 'presents social and ethical issues that may result in legal and reputational harm and liability. EA echoes something similar, saying that the use of AI 'may result in legal and reputational harm' which would cause players to 'lose confidence in our business and brands.' We've already heard aspects of this in the past from fan-favorite developer CDPR as well, which said: 'Use of GAI raises many legal concerns, including lack of IPR protection for content on which GAI relies, or potential inadvertent infringement of third-party IPR.' FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder Cyberpunk 2077 So there are two issues here. 1) The legality of GenAI is still in flux. Yes, big tech companies from Google to Meta to OpenAI are blasting forward by training their models on the entire internet, copyrighted work they don't own. A number of content producers, from the New York Times to musicians and actors are suing various services and there have yet to be any firm decisions about what can or cannot be used with GenAI. So the issue here would be that if you use AI assets in the game, and rulings come down that this is all now illegal, you'd have to reshape large parts of your game, or even risk legal action yourself if you were wrapped up with all these other entities. 2) 'Reputational harm' is a very real thing with gamers right now. When a game is discovered to be using GenAI, it's roasted online and players deem it 'slop' and sometimes will even say they'll boycott a game because of it. Attach GenAI to your games, which is at this point, not hard to spot, and you risk associating that brand with tech everyone hates, including many of the developers actually making those games, like say, artists or writers that are having their work replaced by 'slop.' Darth Vader Even with instances like the Darth Vader AI in Fortnite, which is approved of and licensed by the family of James Earl Jones, how does that affect video game voice actors, and there is already a strike going on there where the attempt to license voices to be fed into AI is a core issue. There may be an aspect of AI more generally to help with development in more technical ways, but GenAI to create art or voicework is an entirely different category and something that as of now, has been roundly rejected by gamers to the point that this kind of things needs to work its way into financial reports. It reminds me of the whole web3/NFT craze that then turned into the metaverse crazy and then they all died because…gamers didn't want any of that. AI at large is already reshaping the world, but perhaps gamers can keep this wall up so it doesn't make it into video games. Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. It's Confirmed The ‘Cyberpunk 2077' Sequel Will Explore Chicago, Sort Of

Cyberpunk 2077 I have wondered how Cyberpunk 2077's sequel would work if we've already explored essentially all of Night City and its surrounding areas. Turns out there's an intriguing answer for that. Speaking at Digital Dragons in Poland, CDPR's Mike Pondsmith addressed the question. Turns out that Cyberpunk 2078 (I'm just going to start calling it this) will have two cities, Night City and a second one that is 'a new city inspired by a dystopian Chicago.' 'There is one more city which we are visiting – Night City is still there,' Pondsmith said. 'I remember how I looked at it and thought 'yes, I understand the climate you're going towards and it realistically works; you can't feel Blade Runner, it's more like Chicago, which went the wrong direction.' This is interesting as it's unclear if this is a city 'inspired' by Chicago or if it's…literally Chicago in the universe. My guess is the former for a few reasons. Cyberpunk 2077 First of all, Chicago itself exists in the Cyberpunk 2077 universe. Effectively all real-world cities do. Night City is its own thing, but the game references LA, Vegas, DC, Denver, and yes, Chicago. The second reason is how Chicago is referenced in the game. Lore you may have missed indicates that Chicago is dealing with a 'bioplague' that quarantined the city which has become lawless and cut off from the world after its mass contamination from a weaponized biological weapon test. It is also dealing with destroyed technical interfaces like the Net. FEATURED | Frase ByForbes™ Unscramble The Anagram To Reveal The Phrase Pinpoint By Linkedin Guess The Category Queens By Linkedin Crown Each Region Crossclimb By Linkedin Unlock A Trivia Ladder I mean, that sounds like exactly the sort of dystopia that Pondsmith is referencing here. Maybe that has some sort of other, Cyberpunk-ish name for the city after all, but a walled-off, contaminated, lawless city sounds like a great contrast to Night City where yes, it's filled with crime, but as Pondsmith says, it's more Blade Runner-esque, run by corpos. This sounds…amazing? Cyberpunk 2077 is my favorite game of all time (no exaggeration), and this seems like it would solve the 'return only to Night City' problem that I was worried about and introduce an entirely different dynamic to the game and world that we haven't seen before (though perhaps a bit like Dogtown). I hope we don't have to deal with 'contamination zones' with poison gas that require oxygen-depleting masks or something, as I find that mechanic pretty annoying (looking at you, The Division), but whatever it is, I'm sure it will be great. Cerro de Pasco Resources to Pursue Secondary Listing on the Lima Stock Exchange

MONTRÉAL, May 15, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Cerro de Pasco Resources Inc . (TSXV: CDPR) (OTCMKTS: GPPRF) (FRA: N8HP) ('CDPR' or the 'Company') is pleased to announce that it will pursue a secondary listing of its shares on the Lima Stock Exchange (Bolsa de Valores de Lima, 'BVL') as part of its strategy to expand its presence in Latin America and increase visibility among regional investors. The Company's primary listing will remain on the TSX Venture Exchange (TSXV). The Company has retained Kallpa Securities SAB ('Kallpa') as its sponsor and advisor for the listing process. Kallpa is a Peruvian investment firm specializing in equity sales, research, and corporate finance. It is the exclusive sponsor for all ten junior mining companies currently listed on the TSX Venture Exchange and cross-listed on the BVL. Since its founding in 2008, Kallpa has become one of Peru's leading brokerage firms, ranking 8th in trading volume among 20 Peruvian brokers, and widely recognized as the country's leading mining research house. The listing application is expected to be filed within the next 30 days, with completion anticipated within approximately two to three months, subject to regulatory approvals. Strategic Rationale for the Listing CDPR's planned listing on the BVL reflects its strong commitment to Peru and the broader Andean region, where the Company's flagship asset — a silver-rich polymetallic reprocessing project targeting Cerro de Pasco's historic tailings — is located. A BVL listing will: The BVL is now part of NUAM Exchange, the newly formed regional holding company integrating the stock exchanges of Chile, Colombia, and Peru into a single regional market ( ). It offers listed companies increased visibility and access to a deeper pool of institutional and retail investors across the Andean region. While each participating country retains its own regulatory framework, joint initiatives are underway to harmonize various processes such as IPO requirements, filings, custody, and settlement. Streamlined Regulatory Approach As a TSX Venture Exchange-listed company, CDPR benefits from the TSXV Passport Listing Process, which allows qualified issuers to fast-track secondary listings on approved exchanges such as the BVL. This process is designed to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and accelerate time to market — all while maintaining robust disclosure and governance standards. The BVL recognizes the TSXV as an authorized market under its regulatory framework. As a result, CDPR's listing will not create additional regulatory burdens. The Company will continue to report under Canadian securities laws, leveraging its existing compliance structure to meet local requirements in Peru. Market Overview Role of Kallpa Securities As CDPR's designated sponsor, Kallpa will: Executive Commentary 'A listing on the BVL would enhance CDPR's visibility and trading liquidity, while opening the door for broader participation in the Company's growth from Latin American institutional and retail investors, including Peruvian pension funds,' saidGuy Goulet, CEO of CDPR. 'We view this as a natural step forward in aligning our capital markets presence with the region where our core operations and long-term vision are anchored.' Additional updates on the listing process will be provided as they become available. About Cerro de Pasco Resources Cerro de Pasco Resources is focused on the development of its principal 100% owned asset, the El Metalurgista mining concession, comprising silver-rich mineral tailings and stockpiles extracted over a century of operation from the Cerro de Pasco open pit and underground mine in central Peru.
