Whitmer vows to fight for healthy climate plan, while expanding home energy rebates

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said she would stand by her climate goals amid a challenging federal landscape during the MI Healthy Climate Conference in Detroit on April 23, 2025. | Kyle Davidson Amid a challenging federal landscape for climate action, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, speaking Wednesday at the 2025 MI Healthy Climate conference in Detroit, stood firm on the goals outlined in her climate plan, renewing her commitment to bring the state to 100% carbon neutrality by 2050. 'Last year, we had a federal government that joined us in the fight for climate action. They worked hard to protect our air and land and water, and made historic investments in our clean energy effort,' Whitmer said. 'Now we have a government that calls climate change a hoax and wants to repeal clean energy investments, slow growth and they're skirting legal processes to cut hundreds of policies that help protect our air, land and lakes from pollution, waste and dangerous chemicals,' Whitmer said before pointing to an executive order that she said targets states who have passed laws to address climate change. However, Michigan is not backing down in its climate efforts, Whitmer said, noting that Michigan is also seeing increased opportunities in clean energy jobs and electric vehicle manufacturing. 'We have an opportunity to take the lead on climate, an opportunity to continue creating good paying jobs and an opportunity to show the world what Michigan can do,' she said. As states serve as laboratories for democracy within our federal system, those states are on the frontline in the fight against climate change, Whitmer said, pledging not to abandon the goals outlined in her MI Healthy Climate plan. In that vein, Whitmer announced the launch of a statewide home energy rebate program in hopes of saving Michiganders costs on their energy bills. According to a statement from the Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy, up to 15,000 homes will benefit from the program's rollout, as households are eligible for up to $34,000 in rebates from the program's two efforts. The first offers rebates to address the up front cost of whole-home energy efficiency upgrades such as insulation, air sealing and heating and cooling. Households are eligible for up to $20,000 in rebates through this program. The second will help reduce the upfront cost of energy efficient electric appliances and equipment, offering up to $840 for an electric stove or dryer; $1,750 for a heat pump water heater; $1,600 for insulation, air sealing and ventilation; $2,500 for electric wiring upgrades and $8,000 for a heat pump for heating or cooling, with households eligible for a maximum of $14,000 in rebates. Renters and homeowners interested in the program can find more information about the program and how to apply at or by dialing the CLEAResult Call Center at 855-510-7080. When a household's application is approved, they will be directed to select an program-approved contractor to conduct a home assessment with eligible rebate work to be completed by the program's contractors. For low-income households, 100% of the work is covered. The program also aims to support jobs in construction; heating, ventilation and air conditioning; energy efficiency and appliance installation. The state is encouraging contractors to sign up online to become an eligible program contractor, directing any questions to mihercontractor@ Contractors can also receive bonuses for certain projects in eligible communities. High-power GaNSafe™ & GeneSiC MOSFETs power new levels of energy efficiency, reduce electricity costs, and extend system lifetime. TORRANCE, Calif., April 01, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- In a release issued on March 17, 2025 by Navitas Semiconductor (Nasdaq: NVTS), please note registered trademarks, CLEAResult certification information, and an updated image have been added and references to the APEC 2025 conference have been removed. The corrected release follows: Navitas Semiconductor (Nasdaq: NVTS), the only pure-play, next-generation power semiconductor company and industry leader in gallium nitride (GaN) power ICs and silicon carbide (SiC) technology, has announced that its high-power GaNSafe and Gen 3 'Fast' SiC MOSFETs enable their portfolio of 3.2kW, 4.5kW, and 8.5 kW AI data center power supply unit (PSU) reference designs to achieve system efficiencies from 96.5% to 98%, accelerating the adoption of cleaner energy server data center PSUs. These reference designs have not yet been granted 80 PLUS® Ruby certification by 80 PLUS® certification program assesses and certifies the energy efficiency of internal PSUs in computers and servers. The 'Ruby' certification was announced in January 2025 by CLEAResult, the program's administrating body, following an endorsement by the Green Grid consortium. Ruby certification can only be officially granted by CLEAResult through their own testing and validation process. Ruby is the most rigorous PSU efficiency standard since the 'Titanium' certification was released 14 years ago. In comparison, Ruby sets an additional 1% system efficiency across all load conditions, except at 50% load (which requires a 0.5% increase), to achieve a new benchmark of 96.5% efficiency. This new standard offers the industry a clear path to enhanced energy efficiency, helping data centers address the evolving needs of cloud storage, commercial sectors, and the increasing pressure on the grid from AI computing. For example, every Ruby-certified 3.2 kW CRPS185 PSU can save up to 420 kilowatt-hours during a 3-year lifetime. That is the equivalent of over 400 kg of CO2 emissions. Navitas is the established leader in AI data center solutions enabled by GaN and SiC technology. In August 2023, they introduced a high-speed, high-efficiency 3.2 kW CRPS, achieving a 40% smaller size than best-in-class, legacy silicon solutions for power-hungry AI and Edge computing. This was followed by the world's highest power density 4.5 kW CRPS, achieving a ground-breaking 137 W/in3, and efficiency of over 97%. In November 2024, Navitas released the world's first 8.5 kW AI data center power supply powered by GaN and SiC that could meet 98% efficiency, complying with the Open Compute Project (OCP) and Open Rack v3 (ORv3) specifications. Additionally, Navitas created IntelliWeave, an innovative patented new digital control technique, that when combined with high-power GaNSafe and Gen 3-Fast SiC MOSFETs, enables PFC peak efficiencies to 99.3% and reduces power losses by 30% reduction compared to existing solutions. "Compared with Titanium, Ruby cuts the allowable PSU losses significantly and will be critical in enabling the data center industry to reduce its carbon footprint and cut operational costs,' said Gene Sheridan, CEO and co-founder of Navitas. 'With the industry set to consume 1,000 TWh annually by next year1, every percentage point improvement in efficiency represents a reduction of 10 TWh, or approximately 3.5 million tons of CO22. Advances in our GaNSafe and GeneSiC products enable these targets to be met and significantly exceeded." CLEAResult Announces 80 PLUS® Ruby: A New Data Center Energy Efficiency Standard

New certification sets the highest global efficiency criteria for data center server power supplies AUSTIN, Texas, March 12, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today CLEAResult, North America's largest energy efficiency, energy transition and energy sustainability services provider, announced 80 PLUS® Ruby, the highest level of energy efficiency certification ever established for data center server power supply units (PSUs) worldwide. The rapidly growing demand for data storage and AI-driven applications is driving an urgent need for greater energy efficiency in data center operations. Currently, data centers account for approximately 0.4% of total U.S. electricity consumption, but this figure is projected to rise dramatically to between 6.7% and 12% by 2028 as storage, data processing and AI workloads expand. "Achieving the highest standard of operations for data centers is critical as energy demand quickly grows and we are proud that the 80 PLUS Ruby certification is setting the example of what optimal data center energy efficiency can look like worldwide," said Divakar Jandhyala, CLEAResult's Chief Product & Technology Officer. To address this challenge, the 80 PLUS Ruby certification introduces the most rigorous PSU efficiency standard in 14 years, requiring 90%+ efficiency across the entire power delivery system. This new standard provides the industry with a pathway toward higher energy efficiency, ensuring data centers can meet the evolving demands of cloud storage, commercial institutions and the growing strain on the grid caused by AI-driven computing. Atthapon Sermkarndee, Senior Qualification Engineering Manager with Delta Electronics Thailand added, "We achieved three certifications and see the value in 80 PLUS Ruby certifications. It adds a level of trust in efficacy that the whole industry can rely on." As part of CLEAResult's Testing and Certification program, 80 PLUS badges certify products that have undergone rigorous testing and meet or surpass the program's established energy efficiency criteria. The 80 PLUS Ruby certification recognizes global data center standards for PSUs that achieve 96.5% efficiency at 230V, 277V, 480V AC-DC and 380V DC at 50% load, and 90% or greater at 5%, 10%, 20%, 50% and 100% of rated wattage. 80 PLUS also addresses light loading – when servers operate at low power levels relative to their maximum capacity – by introducing a 5% load efficiency requirement of 90% in data centers for standards and regulations adoption. This ensures power supply units maintain high efficiency, even when servers operate in redundant configurations or are unintentionally over-sized for their applications, reducing unnecessary energy waste and improving overall operational efficiency. Jason Boehlke, Senior Energy Sustainability Practice Manager at CLEAResult, said, "It represents a next-level benchmark, providing the industry with a standard for both performance and energy usage." As data center operators face growing energy demands, regulatory requirements from Energy Star, the European Union's (EU) Energy-related Products (ErP) directive and United for Efficiency (U4E) are also expanding. The 80 PLUS Ruby certification represents a future efficiency roadmap for standard and regulatory adoption. Learn more about the CLEAResult 80 PLUS® Ruby certification program.
