Speaking to the media, Shivakumar said, 'If Kamal Haasan has made a mistake, then he will apologise. The court will take the necessary action." The Deputy CM had made similar appeals on Monday, urging people to be patient and avoid fanning tensions. He stressed the close ties between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, saying, 'I don't know the issue so let me go to my records and then I will speak. I don't want to make this a political issue. 'We all are neighbours, We all have to work together, live together. Our water goes to Tamil Nadu. Tamil Nadu people come here. We are not enemies. We all are friends," he added. Earlier in the day, the Karnataka High Court criticised Haasan over his remark, with Justice M Nagaprasanna stating that it had hurt the sentiments of Kannadigas. The judge questioned Haasan's refusal to apologise, remarking, 'Are you a historian or a linguist to make such a statement? No language is born out of another. A single apology could have resolved the situation." The court stressed that 'language is an emotional and cultural identity of a people" and warned against making statements that could damage the pride of a linguistic community. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had announced that Haasan's film ' Thug Life ', set to release on June 5, would not be allowed to screen in the state unless he publicly apologised. The chamber, which represents producers, distributors and exhibitors, took strong objection to Haasan's comments made during a promotional event in Chennai. (With inputs from agencies)

Operation Sindoor Not Over, India Will Take Action Against Terrorists On Own Terms: PM Modi Warns Pakistan
Last Updated: PM Modi said Operation Sindoor is now India's established policy in the fight against terrorism, and that India would respond to terror attacks on its own terms. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his address to the country on Monday, said Operation Sindoor was not over yet and asserted that India would act against terrorism on its own terms. 'Operation Sindoor is now India's established policy in the fight against terrorism, marking a decisive shift in India's strategic approach. It has established a new normal. First, whenever there is a terrorist attack on India, a strong response will be given. India will retaliate at its own terms, targeting terror hubs at their roots," he said in his address. He further said that India would not be intimidated by nuclear threats and any terrorist safe haven will face precise and decisive strikes. Furthermore, India will no longer see terrorist leaders and the governments sheltering them as separate entities, advocating a zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism. #Watch | PM Modi firmly stated that any dialogue with Pakistan will solely focus on terrorism and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir, reaffirming India's clear stance: terror, trade, and talks cannot go hand in hand. #IndiaPakistanConflict #OperationSindoor #PMModi — News18 (@CNNnews18) May 12, 2025 Modi also pointed out the disturbing reality of Pakistani military officials openly attending funerals of eliminated terrorists, proving Pakistan's deep involvement in state-sponsored terrorism. He said Pakistan's support for terrorist groups will lead to its own downfall. 'India's stance is absolutely clear: Terror and talks cannot go hand in hand, terror and trade cannot co-exist," he said, adding that all future talks with Pakistan will only focus on terrorism and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). 'Operation Sindoor is not just a name, it is a reflection of the feelings of crores of people of the country. It is a pledge of justice. Late night of May 6, early morning of May 7, the whole world saw this pledge turning into action. The Indian army struck precisely at the terror hideouts in Pakistan, their training centres. The terrorists had not even dreamt that India could take such a big decision," said the PM. The 22-minute address marked Modi's first public statement since the launch of Operation Sindoor on May 7, India's military response to the Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed the lives of 26 civilians, including 25 Indians and one Nepali national. How India's Operation Sindoor Got Justice For US Journalist Daniel Pearl Along With Pahalgam Victims
Daniel Pearl was working for The Wall Street Journal when he was kidnapped and killed in Pakistan in 2002. Operation Sindoor delivered justice to his family after 23 long years India's Operation Sindoor successfully neutralised nearly 100 terrorists, including high-value terrorist operatives such as the most wanted Abdul Rauf Azhar. Azhar's role in the IC-814 hijacking had led to release of Omar Saeed Sheikh, who later kidnapped and killed American-Jewish journalist, Daniel Pearl. The operation hence has delivered justice also to Pearl's family after 23 long years. Pearl was working with The Wall Street Journal when he was kidnapped and killed in Pakistan in 2002. EAM S Jaishankar briefs Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on India's #OperationSindoor during delegation level talks in DelhiNews18's @siddhantvm with details @ShivaniGupta_5 | #PahalgamTerrorAttack #Pahalgam #IndiaPakistanTensions #Pakistan — News18 (@CNNnews18) May 8, 2025 OPERATION SINDOOR India did precision strikes under Operation Sindoor in Bahawalpur and Muridke, Pakistan — the terror headquarters of Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), respectively. Among those reported to be eliminated was Azhar — operational head of JeM, mastermind of the IC-814 hijacking, and a central figure in international jihadist networks. He was among those accused of the most heinous acts of global terror. By eliminating Azhar, India has not only delivered justice for countless Indian victims of terror, but also taken a step toward closure in the long, painful memory of Pearl's killing — a case that symbolised the dangers faced by journalists, the Jewish community, and the broader democratic world. Operation Sindoor reaffirms India's commitment to act decisively against terrorism — wherever it may hide, and regardless of the cost — and calls upon the international community, particularly democratic nations and communities such as the American Jewish diaspora to recognise the growing threat of unrepentant terror havens, government sources said. India's actions are targeted, precise, and focused entirely on dismantling terror — not aimed at any nation or people, but at the individuals and organisations who perpetrate crimes against humanity, the Indian government has already pointed out. The US has backed India's right to self-defence in respect of Operation Sindoor. #OperationSindoor: Precise strikes carried out on 9 terror hideouts, close to 100 terrorists killed, counting still underway," govt tells opposition at all-party meeting'India does not wish to escalate, but won't back down if Pakistan acts," govt added News18's @payalmehta100 … — News18 (@CNNnews18) May 8, 2025 WHAT WAS AZHAR'S ROLE? Azhar was involved in the IC-814 hijacking, which directly facilitated the release of Omar Saeed Sheikh, a key Al-Qaeda operative who went on to kidnap and murder Pearl. Pearl's brutal execution in 2002 shocked the conscience of the world and remains a defining example of the global threat posed by state-protected terror networks. Hence, India has not only achieved justice for the Pahalgam victims and of countless other terror acts in India since the IC-814 hijacking, it has also achieved justice for Daniel Pearl. It's a travesty of justice not to find Omar Saeed guilty of any charges in this heinous act of terror.
