COASTER service disrupted due to ‘suspicious bag' in Encinitas

ENCINITAS, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — All rail service was temporarily halted in the Encinitas area Thursday morning due to police activity, officials with the North County Transit District announced on social media shortly before 9 a.m. During that rail closure, northbound COASTER 625 was halted at the Solana Beach station. Passengers then boarded a BREEZE bus to be connected to their North County destinations. The same goes for travelers headed south, with COASTER passengers being picked up at the Poinsettia Station. Rainfall totals across San Diego County FOX 5/KUSI reached out to local authorities for more clarity on the developing situation. According to the San Diego County Sheriff's Office, a call came in around 8:45 a.m. reporting 'a suspicious bag' in the area of 25 E D Street in Encinitas, which is the location of the transit center. Authorities responded to the scene to investigate. During their response, train service was halted. The sheriff's department said the bag was ultimately deemed 'non-hazardous' and normal operations resumed shortly thereafter. As it turns out, the bag contained a laptop that someone had forgotten at the transit center. The owner eventually returned to retrieve it. After some delays, NCTD announced at 11:21 a.m. that all COASTER service was back on schedule. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
