Red Sox ace Garrett Crochet wants to regularly pitch deeper into games
Yet as much as he's taken on increased innings responsibilities, Crochet craves more. He lamented having thrown 'just'

pitching in parts of two innings rather than just one clean frame. While he understood the team's logic in pulling him after 85 pitches in the sixth inning of his prior outing against the Mets, he also wants to get to a point where the team doesn't restrict him.

'Against the Mets, with the short start, I was so frustrated,' said Crochet. 'I want to lead the majors in innings. I want to throw 100 pitches every outing. I want to throw 110 pitches.'

Already, Crochet has a half-dozen outings of at least 100 pitches, tripling his total of two in 2024. He's also significantly bumped his workload from the 63⅔ innings he'd compiled through his first 12 starts last year.
The Red Sox are just 6-6 in games started by Garrett Crochet, who has allowed 17 earned runs over 75 innings.

But the Sox don't want to scale back Crochet, whose ability to work deep into games often has been staff-saving given the inability of other starters to this point to work deep into games in reliable fashion. Red Sox manager

'There's no limit. There's no limitations with [Crochet],' said Cora. 'We'll pick and choose when we're gonna de-load him, but he's a full go, and he's been really good.'
