CPI(ML) New Democracy criticises Union government for not handing over the bodies of Maoist leaders to their families

CPI (ML) New Democracy's State official spokesperson and Indian Federation of Trade Unions State president P. Prasad on Saturday accused the Union government of violating Constitution norms and basic human rights by refusing to hand over the bodies of Maoist leaders who were killed in encounters in Chhattisgarh and other places. The party organised a condolence meeting in Srikakulam and recalled the services of Maoist top leaders Nambala Keshava Rao, Sudhakar and others who were killed recently in Operation Kagar launched by the Union government. Speaking on the occasion, he said that completion of last rites was the wish of every family but it was denied by the Union government. He said that the Maoist leaders dedicated their lives for the people's rights while ignoring their own families for many decades. Mr. Prasad said that the government cannot kill the ideology of Maoism with its special operations like Kagar and others. CPI (ML) New Democracy Srikakulam district secretary Tandra Prakash and the party assistant secretary Vankala Madhavarao alleged that the government not handed over Keshavarao's body to his family members in spite of the Andhra Pradesh High Court's order. Several leaders, including Tirupati Rao (CPI), Rao (CPIM) and Tandra Aruna (CPI-ML), offered tributes to the portrait of Keshavarao.

Left parties demand judicial probe into deaths of Maoists in Chhattisgarh encounter

Condemning the killing of 27 Maoists, including Nambala Keshav Rao, alias Basavaraju, general secretary of the banned CPI (Maoist), in an encounter carried out as part of Operation Kagar in Narayanpur of Chhattisgarh, the Left parties have described the operation as 'illegal' and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident. In a joint statement on Friday, V. Srinivasa Rao of the CPI(M), K. Ramakrishna of the CPI, P. Prasad of the CPI(ML) New Democracy, Katam Nagabhushanam of MCPI(U), B. Bangar Rao of CPI(ML) Liberation, B.S. Amarnath of SUCI(C), P.V. Sundara Ramaraju of Forward Bloc, and Janaki Ramulu of Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSU) said that the police firings resulted in a 'massacre' in which adivasis were also killed. The leaders of the Left parties demand that 'Operation Kagar' be immediately withdrawn and that the bodies of the deceased be handed over to their families. Alleging that the police had thwarted a protest attempt by people's organisations in Palasa of Srikakulam district, creating unrest in the villages. Hence, the Left parties appeal to the State government not to impose restrictions on the democratic right to protest, they said. 'The public announcements by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah claiming this gruesome massacre as a great achievement of their government are objectionable. At a time when the Maoists were expressing a willingness to hold peace talks, the central government intensified the violence. We appeal to the people to condemn this violent and oppressive policy, they said. 'There is a dire need to build a democratic movement against the repression that is destabilising the lives of Adivasis and endangering their very survival. The Central government is using the Maoist threat as a pretext to hand over forest areas rich in mineral resources to large corporations. 'The Left parties declare support for the democratic movement that is rising against Operation Kagar,' they added.

IFTU takes out ‘May Day' rally

Vijayawada: A May Day rally and flag-hoisting ceremony were organised under the aegis of the Indian Federation of Trade Unions (IFTU) here on Thursday. The event began with P Padma, city secretary of CPI (ML) New Democracy hoisting the IFTU flag at Pandit Nehru Bus Stand. Workers wearing IFTU caps and carrying red flags participated in a rally. Speaking on the occasion, Padma recalled that 139 years ago, the working class in Chicago, USA, fought for and won the right to an 8-hour workday and other benefits. She accused the Modi government of abolishing these rights through Labour Codes. She also criticised the Chandrababu government for following anti-worker policies, pointing out that neither the previous nor the current state government has revised minimum wages for 76 scheduled sectors. Padma also condemned the Central government for its complete negligence in protecting lives in Kashmir, alleging that it has deployed thousands of troops in the Karigutta forests of Kakar to kill Adivasis and Maoists. She demanded the cessation of Operation Kagar and called for peace talks with Maoists. At Shirdi Stand, IFTU district president Muni Shankar hoisted the flag. In Gandhi Nagar, Progressive Auto Workers' Union General Secretary Ch Peddiraju raised the union flag, while in Madhura Nagar and Nalanda, union president Dadi Srinivasarao hoisted flags.
