Chris Brown freed on bail after UK arrest over alleged 2023 London bottle attack

The R&B artist Chris Brown has been freed on bail after he was arrested in the UK and later charged over an alleged bottle attack at a London nightclub two years ago. Judge Tony Baumgartner, at Southwark crown court in London, told the American singer, 36, that his bail conditions would allow him to continue with his scheduled world tour, which includes dates in the UK in June and July. Brown was told he must lodge a £5m security fee with the court, which is a financial guarantee to ensure a defendant returns to court and may be forfeited if they do not. Brown was told to pay £4m to the court immediately, with a further £1m due in seven days. Brown was arrested at about 2am on 15 May at the five-star Lowry hotel in Salford, Greater Manchester, after flying into the UK for the tour. He had been in custody since then after initially being refused bail on 16 May. The Breezy Bowl XX tour, which kicks off in Amsterdam on 8 June, includes 10 UK dates, beginning at the Co-op Live arena in Manchester on 15 June, with further dates in London, Cardiff, Birmingham and Glasgow. Brown, a Grammy-winning artist and a former partner of the singer Rihanna, is accused of causing grievous bodily harm to the music producer Abraham Diaw in February 2023, in an incident in which Brown is alleged to have attacked the music producer with a bottle. Speaking at the time of his arrest, Adele Kelly, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London North, said: 'We have authorised the Metropolitan police to charge Chris Brown, 36, with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861. The alleged incident occurred in London on 19 February 2023.' Brown did not appear in court for the bail application hearing.

Chris Brown Denied Bail In United Kingdom After Assault Arrest

Chris Brown has found himself in a sticky situation overseas. The 36-year-old was recently denied bail after being arrested in the United Kingdom in connection with an alleged 2023 assault. Brown was arrested on Thursday (May 15) for allegedly assaulting music producer Abe Diaw and causing grievous bodily harm with intent back in February 2023. He has been accused of attacking Diaw with a bottle of tequila multiple times, then chasing after him and stomping on his head while he was on the ground. Authorities attempted to litigate the situation around the time it happened, but Brown had already left the United Kingdom. Breezy will reportedly remain in custody until June 13, upon which he must enter a plea and attend a trial preparation hearing, Sky News reports. This all presents a major conflict for the Grammy winner, as his tour is set to begin on June 8 in the Netherlands, and he has a show on June 15 in Manchester. 'The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial,' CPS London North's deputy chief crown prosecutor Adele Kelly said. 'It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.' District Judge Joanne Hirst stated that Brown's alleged misconduct was 'too serious' to be handled in her court, and sent the case to London's Southwark Crown Court. This is an especially troubling situation as Chris Brown is just five years into being able to perform overseas again. He was initially banned for a decade after assaulting Rihanna in 2010, but the ban was lifted in 2020. Brown has had a strong year musically, between sold-out shows all over the world and winning Best R&B Album at this past Grammys for 11:11 (Deluxe). Chris Brown charged over alleged London nightclub assault

US singer Chris Brown has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent, says the Metropolitan Police. The force says the charge relates to an alleged assault, which reportedly took place at a nightclub in central London on 19 February 2023. The 36-year-old was arrested at a hotel in Manchester in the early hours of Thursday. He remains in custody and is due to appear before Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday. "We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861", said Adele Kelly, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London North. She added "criminal proceedings against this defendant are active" and "he has the right to a fair trial". The R&B singer is currently on tour and is scheduled to play several shows across the UK in June and July.
