Springfield street set to close for water main relocation, railroad project
SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — A portion of North Grand Avenue in Springfield will be closed for an estimated five weeks so that a water main can be relocated.
Beginning Monday, May 5, the CWLP Water Department will close North Grand Avenue between 7th and 9th Streets. During the road closure, crews will relocate 2,000 feet of 24-inch water main for the Springfield Rail Improvements Project.

The CWLP said this project is the largest piece of the multi-year Springfield Rail Improvements Project so far for the Water Department. Relocating the water main is estimated to cost $4.8 million. Three more phases are planned for the North Grand Avenue underpass, which are expected to be done by the fall. This current project is expected to take five weeks.
Traffic will be closed until surface pavement repairs are done. The CWLP asks that motorists plan alternate routes to avoid delays and slow down around work zones.
