A British Airways flight from Hong Kong to London has been cancelled despite Heathrow Airport resuming operations following a major power outage, while five Cathay Pacific flights are departing the city for the UK as planned. Advertisement A day after a fire at a nearby electrical substation knocked out its power supply and completely shut it down, the UK air hub said early on Saturday that it was running all flights as scheduled, including additional services to support with reconnecting passengers and repositioning aircraft. The airport handles more than 200,000 passengers a day on average. But the British Airways' BA 032 London-bound flight was cancelled at 10.45pm, according to the website of the Hong Kong International Airport. Six flights between Hong Kong and London are operated daily, with flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways running five and British Airways one. The website showed that Cathay's CX257 and CX239 departed on Saturday morning, while CX253, CX 251 and CX255 are scheduled to fly out at 1.30pm, 10.55pm and 11.35pm respectively. Advertisement For Saturday's arrivals from Heathrow to Hong Kong, all six daily direct flights – CX 252, CX 238, CX 250, CX 256, CX 254, and BA 031 – were cancelled. No updates on the status of these flights have been released yet.

Hong Kong's Cathay cancels 2 flights to Heathrow, as nearby fire forces closure

Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways has cancelled two flights to London's Heathrow Airport after it closed on Friday due to a power outage caused by a huge fire at a nearby electrical substation. Advertisement The airline also announced that it had cancelled its remaining flights for the day that were scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong from the airport in London. According to the Airport Authority's website, six flights from Hong Kong to Heathrow were originally scheduled for Friday. Five of them are operated by Cathay Pacific and the other is run by British Airways. A Cathay spokesman said the airline cancelled flights CX239 and CX253, which were scheduled to depart the city at 10.35am and 1.30pm (both Hong Kong time), respectively. The Post learned that CX257, which departed for Heathrow at 8.10am, was returning to Hong Kong and CX255 was diverted to Amsterdam. Advertisement The Airport Authority said it was informed about the airport closure and noted 12 flights between Hong Kong and Heathrow were scheduled for Friday. One flight heading to London was forced to turn back, and two others were canceled, it said.
