Christopher Measmer selected as GOP nominee for NC Senate seat
CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Christopher Allen Measmer has been unanimously recommended by the Cabarrus County Republican Party Executive Committee as the Republican to replace and complete the remainder of the unexpired term of the now-resigned Senator Newton in the 34th Senate District.
I am thrilled to see Chris be selected as our next State Senator. His presentation, resume, and seven years of experience serving all the residents of Cabarrus County were notable. During his tenure on the County Commission, Chris has been a champion for the taxpayers of Cabarrus County. He has never shied away from tackling challenging issues, and I look forward to seeing him serve out Senator Newton's term at the General Assembly.

Chris Measmer is a Cabarrus County Commissioner with deep roots in the area, tracing his family lineage back to 1817. He graduated from Central Cabarrus High School and later earned a degree in Political Science from George Washington University. During his studies, Measmer gained firsthand experience with legislative projects on Capitol Hill alongside members of the U.S. Congress.
After graduation, he returned to Cabarrus County to help run the family business and has since become a second-generation business owner. His experience extends to serving on the statewide National Federation of Independent Business board as Vice Chairman, where he advocates for the interests of small business owners.
Measmer is in his seventh year on the Cabarrus County Board of County Commissioners, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Commission.
He has previously served as Vice-Chairman and also served on multiple boards, including the Cabarrus Visitors Bureau, the Water and Sewer Authority of Cabarrus County, the Cabarrus County Human Services Board, Cabarrus County Senior Center Board, past President of the Cabarrus Historic Society, Cabarrus County Republican Executive Committee, the Juvenile Crime Prevention Council, the Cabarrus County Senior Center Board, and the Cabarrus County Child Protection and Fatality Team.
Following Saturday's vote, the Republican Executive Committee notified Governor Josh Stein of their recommendation.
The Governor has up to seven days to appoint Measmer to his new role as State Senator through 2026.
