Former Vol Aaron Combs by the numbers in MLB Spring Breakout

The second group of MLB Spring Breakout games were played Friday in both the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues as a part of MLB spring training. Although Friday was the second day for MLB Spring Breakout, it was the first day of games featuring former Vols. Despite making MLB Spring Breakout rosters for both San Diego and Kansas City, neither Kavares Tears or Drew Beam made an appearance for their respective organizations. While Beam and Tears did not see the field, another former Vol crucial to Tennessee's 2024 national championship team did play in pitcher Aaron Combs. Combs closed for Philadelphia's prospects against Pittsburgh's prospects. Despite surrendering one hit and a pair of walks, he struck out two batters to guide the Phillies' prospects to a, 5-3, victory. Combs appeared in 50 games, including two starts, for the Vols from 2023-24. He recorded 105 strikeouts and a 3.24 ERA. Five former Pirates named to MLB Spring Breakout Rosters

GREENVILLE, N.C. — Five former East Carolina baseball standouts will participate in the second annual Major League Baseball Spring Breakout according to a release of the event rosters by the organization Thursday afternoon. Trey Yesavage (Toronto), Josh Moylan (New York Yankees), Carson Whisenhunt (San Francisco), Zach Agnos (Colorado) and Tyler Bradt (St. Louis) are all slated to take part in the showcase, which runs from March 13-16. Yesavage is currently ranked the No. 2 prospect in the Toronto organization as well as No. 87 on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 prospects list while Whisenhunt checks in at No. 2 in the Giants organization and Agnos slots No. 28 for the Rockies. The second annual edition of Spring Breakout features hundreds of the top prospects from around the league. The rosters are stacked, highlighted by 72 players on MLB Pipeline's Top 100 Prospects list and nearly two-thirds of the 900 players on the organizational Top 30 lists. Eighteen No. 1 prospects are scheduled to participate, as are 21 players ranked No. 2 in their respective organizations. All 16 contests will take place in the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues and will be streamed live and blackout-free on MLB's digital platforms ( and the MLB app) and partner platforms. Eight games will air live on MLB Network, with the other eight being shown on tape-delay basis. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
