Mosley's Fowler wins weightlifting state championship
LYNN HAVEN, Fla. (WMBB) – Mosley junior weightlifter, Cade Fowler took home first place at the FHSAA State Championship Weightlifting meet in his first season as a competitve lifter.
Fowler won the 199 lb. weight class for tradition with a 665 lb. total. He had a 390 lb. bench press and a 275 lb. clean and jerk.
Fowler says the gold medal came down to a nail-biting finish and he needed a little help to hit the final bench press.
'I got on that bench, and it was between me and one guy,' Fowler said. 'And I had competed with this guy before, he actually beat me at regionals. And really, I just sat on that bench and I prayed. I said, 'Lord, if there's anything that you would do for me, let me get this bench.' And just he helped me. He helped me, and he's helped me all year.'
Fowler hopes to run it back and win a second state championship in his senior season.
