Cadillac Blackwings Help U.S. Secret Service Learn How to Drive Stick

General Motors donated 10 new cars to the United States Secret Service training facility. The new fleet includes two , two , an , two , a , a with a police package, and a . Of the Cadillac sedans, two are equipped with manual transmissions to help agents hone their three-pedal driving skills. Training for United States Secret Service agents just got a lot more fun. Earlier this week, General Motors dropped off a shipment of 10 new cars to the Secret Service's James J. Rowley Training Center (RTC) in Laurel, Maryland. The video above features some overly dramatic music and mind-bending camera angles, but it also details why the agency wants a diverse testing fleet. The fleet of 10 consists of two Cadillac CT4 sedans, two CT5 sedans, an Escalade, two Chevy Corvettes (including a hybrid all-wheel-drive E-Ray), a Colorado ZR2, a Tahoe with a police package, and a Suburban. According to RTC driving instructor Mark Armstrong, two of the Caddy sedans are equipped with manual transmissions, which means both are the range-topping Blackwing models. The CT4-V Blackwing features a 472-hp twin-turbo V-6, while the mightier CT5-V Blackwing packs a 668-hp supercharged V-8. "Not everyone is able to operate a manual shift," Armstrong said. "Having that platform here will enable us to give instruction on how to drive manual vehicles for overseas trips." The other bonus is the different types of cars included in the fleet. Constantine Gerukos, another instructor at the facility, pointed out that advanced driving is a perishable skill, like a muscle that needs to be worked out, so having a variety of cars can keep trainees and instructors alike fresh. What's not clear is if training agents on manual transmission cars is a new focus awarded by having these Blackwing models in the fleet or if three-pedal driving is a long-standing prerequisite for Secret Service trainees. Car and Driver reached out to the Department of Homeland Security to inquire about the training, and we'll update this story if we hear back. Morgan City man arrested in connection with New Orleans Mardi Gras ‘street takeover'

MORGAN CITY, La. () — A Morgan City man was arrested and charged in connection with what police are calling a 'street takeover' on Mardi Gras in New Orleans, authorities said. Kane Smith, 26, of Morgan City, is one of four suspects arrested by State Police. Smith was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison and charged with aggravated flight from an officer, three counts of aggravated obstruction of a highway, three counts of reckless driving, one count of obstruction of justice and other traffic-related offenses. Louisiana State Police – Troop NOLA was alerted at approximately 10:30 p.m. March 4 to a public safety concern involving vehicles and pedestrians obstructing roadways, commonly referred to as 'street takeovers.' This particular incident occurred in the area of Chef Menteur Highway and Press Drive in New Orleans. Officials said these well-coordinated events are often linked to other criminal activity throughout the city. State Troopers responded to assist the New Orleans Police Department and conducted three separate traffic stops involving a Cadillac CT4, an Infiniti Q50 and a Chrysler 300 — all participating in the takeover. The traffic stops escalated into pursuits across New Orleans, with drivers reaching speeds exceeding 130 mph, authorities said. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Troopers executed a search warrant March 14 at Smith's residence in Morgan City, where they allegedly found two stolen vehicle engines — one installed in the Chrysler 300 used in the street takeover and the other in a separate Chrysler 300 at the residence — as well as illegal narcotics. Both vehicles were seized, officials said. Troopers arrested Brody Gautreaux, 26, of Lockport, the alleged driver of the Cadillac CT4, and seized the vehicle as part of the investigation. Gautreaux was booked into the Orleans Parish Prison and charged with aggravated flight from an officer, aggravated obstruction of a highway, reckless driving and other traffic-related offenses. Report: Cadillac Switching Sedans To All-Electric

Read the full story on The Auto Wire It seems despite feedback from the market indicating electric cars continue to have niche appeal, Cadillac is moving forward on plans to switch its sedans for EVs. This could be yet another example of GM reacting in all the wrong ways, failing to read the room, and even telling consumers what they sure some will find this plan to be brilliant and forward-thinking. Time will tell if this is a major flub and black eye for the Cadillac brand or a way for it to at least keep up with if not leapfrog the competition. While the Cadillac CT4 and CT5 will stick around for another model year, that's 2026, a new report from GM Authority indicates that's the end of the line for both. Considering they shared a factory with the late Camaro, their demise was anticipated, just at the same time. Instead, GM will keep them around a bit longer, then replace both with new EV models. One will be about the size of the CT5, while the other will be around the same as the CT6. We guess the CT4 is just considered too small, for now. Supposedly, these two all-electric sedans will have a sportback design, similar to the Cadillac Escala concept. They're supposedly going to be using the brand's next-generation EV architecture, too, which is a leap beyond what the Lyriq and others currently use. This information comes yet again from anonymous sources within GM, so we wouldn't exactly call it gospel truth. But it could be spot on – we'll see. We know the talk within Cadillac for a long time was how the brand could catch up or surpass premium European brands like Mercedes and BMW. However, with the uprising of Tesla that's changed as GM has been working to position its crown jewel as a Tesla rival, the same as what the Europeans have been trying to accomplish. In the meantime, we've noted the oft-used phrase 'Tesla killer' seen in other media outlets has gone away, despite Cadillac and others trying to meet the American automaker on its own ground. Do you think it's wise for Cadillac to abandon the premium internal combustion engine market like this? 6 Luxury Cars That Will Have Massive Price Drops in Early 2025

So far, 2025 is proving to be the year of the luxury car. According to Brian Moody, executive editor at Kelley Blue Book, more car buyers are shelling out for pricey models. 'There have been more than 52,000 six-figure car sales in January and February this year alone,' he said. 'That's up from 46,000 over the same time last year, and from 12,000 in 2020.' Explore More: Read Next: But while the overall luxury car market remains strong, some models are struggling to leave the lot — suggesting there are ample opportunities for price cuts in the year ahead. Industry experts Moody and Zach Shefska, CEO of CarEdge, share their insights on which luxury vehicles are most likely to see price drops this year. British car manufacturer Jaguar courted controversy earlier this year with a rebrand that not everyone loved, and a bold promise to be 100% electric by 2026. This, said Moody, may be costing them. 'Though they're highly regarded by many car buyers, Jaguar is going through a transition, and is one of the few luxury models that might have price drops soon,' he said. Shefska added the Jaguar F-Pace is already showing signs of bearing the brunt of the company's change in direction. According to Car Edge data, the F-Pace has a 291-day supply, making it the slowest-selling car in the country. 'That means it would take 291 days to sell all the available Jaguar F-Paces based on current sales rates,' Shefska explained. 'We think that means there will be some big price cuts on that vehicle.' Consider This: The Porsche Taycan, a high-end EV, has seen depreciation on the used market, and its new models may follow suit, said Shefska. 'EV sales have been slowing down, particularly in the luxury segment. For a vehicle that costs, on average, $143,000, the market is just not that big,' he noted, adding that high supply levels and waning consumer interest in ultra-luxury EVs could result in significant incentives on the Taycan. Alfa Romeo's Giulia is another sedan facing price drops due to oversupply and lack of demand. 'Only 212 Giulias have sold in the last 45 days, and there's a 216-day supply on dealer lots,' Shefska revealed. This high inventory level suggests that dealerships will be offering steep discounts and financing incentives to move units. With a 243-day supply, the Cadillac CT4 is another luxury sedan struggling to find buyers. Shefska attributes its likely price decline to the growing preference for SUVs over sedans. 'There's a little bit of a trend here: Cadillac CT4, Porsche Taycan, and Alfa Romeo Giulia are all expensive luxury sedans, and consumers are opting for SUVs instead,' he noted, adding that buyers can expect dealer incentives, including low-interest financing and discounts of around 10% off MSRP. Maserati's new Grecale SUV has had trouble attracting buyers, mostly because the price point is too high. 'There's just not a lot of interest in expensive Maseratis right now — shocker,' said Shefska. 'And they raised the prices for 2025, despite already struggling to sell their vehicles.' He anticipates buyers will find good deals this year through dealer incentives and financing deals. While Lexus has strong overall demand, its electric models may be a different story. 'I would imagine price drops on electric versions of Lexus and Mercedes-Benz vehicles — especially lightly-used versions,' said Moody. The slowing demand for luxury EVs means steep discounts and attractive lease deals could be on the horizon.
