Shah Rukh Khan dreamt of buying Mannat for Gauri Khan, says director Aziz Mirza
There is a shot featuring Shah Rukh Khan in his famous song Chaand Taare from the 1997 film Yes Boss, in which he sings in front of the house that he now owns – Mannat. Director Aziz Mishra recollected in an interview with Radio Nasha when the actor pointed the house out years later in 2001 and told him he had bought it. He and Gauri were so young, you know how people say a lot of things in their youth. So whenever they crossed Mannat, Shah Rukh must've pointed out and said, one day he'll buy her the house. Life is good, and fortunate that he made it a reality, I think about that sometimes.' He also recollected how, years later, when they were shooting at Cafe Seaside, Shah Rukh had pointed out the house to him and told him he'd bought it. 'I remember we were shooting a song at Cafe Seaside and he told me, Aziz, I've bought that house. You could see it from the cafe. I congratulated him. But later, he went through issues due to the municipality. Life is all about the ups and downs. He faced issues, but thankfully, it's all well now. I hope he lives happily in that house with his family,' said Aziz. Shah Rukh acquired Mannat in 2001; before that, Nariman Dubash, a Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust trustee, owned it. The Khans recently moved out of their home to allow major home renovations. They shifted to a luxurious apartment building in the Pali Hill area of Bandra, where they will reside for approximately two years. Shah Rukh will soon star in Siddharth Anand's King, which will also star his daughter Suhana Khan and Abhishek Bachchan.

Shah Rukh Khan pointed at Mannat and announced he bought it, recalls Aziz Mirza: ‘Must have promised Gauri, and he made it happen'
Shah Rukh Khan's residence, Mannat, has become a major tourist attraction in Mumbai over the last couple of decades. The house, located at the iconic Bandra Bandstand, is visited by his fans from all over the country. However, there was a time, when Shah Rukh Khan could only dream of buying this house, which is estimated to be worth over Rs 200 crore today. While shooting Aziz Mirza's 1997 film Yes Boss, Shah Rukh filmed the song 'Chaand Taare' outside this house. He expressed an interest in buying this property and after four years, he bought the property from the Bai Khorshed Bhanu Sanjana Trust. Recalling the moment, director Aziz Mirza shared with Radio Nasha, 'Shah Rukh was staying at my house, Devdoot. Mannat was very near to Devdoot. He was young, so was Gauri. Once, maybe while walking by the villa, Shah Rukh must have promised Gauri to one day buy this huge property. We all dream big when young. Life was good to him and he was fortunate enough as he actually did buy it.' He added, 'Now, that I think about it, I remember they used to go out on walks, I am sure this conversation must have taken place.' 'I remember, once we were shooting for a song near Cafe Seaside. Pointing at Mannat, he told me Aziz I bought this house. But, after that he had to go through many issues with the municipality and people behind the house. But, eventually, they made through it,' he recalled. Shah Rukh and Gauri had named the house Jannat post their purchase, however, in 2005 they renamed it as Mannat (which means a wish that comes true). Shah Rukh and family recently vacated the house for renovation. They have temporarily relocated to a luxury apartment building in Bandra. The family has leased two duplex apartments for Rs 2.9 crore per year. This rent amounts to Rs 24 lakh per month for the four floors. The apartments are owned by producer Vashu Bhagnani.
