Studio Ghibli earrings bring classy fun to your look courtesy of Totoro, Calcifer, and more 【Pics】

Pierced-ear and clip-type accessories for the sophisticated anime fan. T-shirts might be the first thing that springs to mind when thinking of anime fashion, but there are occasions that call for dressier attire. That doesn't mean you have to leave your sense of anime fun behind, though, especially if you're a Studio Ghibli fan. Ghibli specialty shop Donguri Kyowakoku has a sub-brand called Donguri Closet whose focus is on apparel and accessories for grown-up women who want something fashionable that still retains a touch of girlish playfulness. They've recently restocked their collection of Ghibli character earrings, the first of which has Totoro, or technically the Medium Totoro, carrying his customary sack of acorns…with a few having spilled out as sparkly dangling beads. Though the Totoros are the same for both sets, the earrings are available in two versions, a pierced-ears type and non-piercing ear clips. That's also true for the earrings for another adorable Ghibli character, Howl's Moving Castle's Calcifer. As a being made of flame, Calcifer doesn't actually have a set shape, but I think we can agree that his most memorable form is when he's cooking up a mouthwatering breakfast of Ghibli-animated bacon and eggs, so that's how he appears for the earrings. Rounding out the lineup of two-type earrings we come to the star of Kiki's delivery service. Kiki actually doesn't show up all that often in Ghibli merch, as designers more frequently put the spotlight on her feline pal Jiji. Here, though, the titular heroine appears in pensive profile within a flower frame. Someone else who's not so regularly seen in lineups like this is Arrietty, but she's here too, ▼ As an added bonus, the earrings' size lets you take photos that look like the tiny Arrietty has actually snuck into your house to 'borrow' some things. And finally, the last set of earrings, brings us back to Howl's Moving Castle, with Howl's ring, one with a red stone and the other a blue one. Like the Arrietty earrings, these are only available as a pierced-ears version. The earrings are all priced at 6,050 yen (US$42), with the exception of the Howl's ring pair, which is 5,060 yen, and the whole bunch is available through the Donguri Kyowakou online store (Totoro here and here, Calcifer here and here, Kiki here and here, Arrietty here, and Howl's ring here). And if you'd like Calcifer noy just at your ears, but on your fingers too, don't forget about the fire spirit's Kazarings. Ghibli Howl's Moving Castle Calcifer rings aren't just rings, they're Kazarings【Photos】

Calcifer's got a secret in this set of accessories, but it's a sure bet that it's adorable too. Aside from the films' beautiful visuals and stirring soundtracks, many Ghibli fans find themselves drawn to the studio's anime for their profoundly deep yet broadly relatable themes. In addition to being grand entertainment, the works of Studio Ghibli, many would say, can also teach you something about life. We might not be getting into quite such lofty discussions within the scope of this article, but today a Ghibli classic will at least be teaching us something about the Japanese language with the Howl's Moving Castle Kazaring series. Featuring everyone's favorite breakfast-cooking fire demon, Calcifer, the Kazaring series simultaneously shows Japan's endless enthusiasm for cute things and puns. Kazari is the Japanese word for 'decoration,' and the Kazarings, a term coined by Studio Ghibli specialty shop Donguri Kyowakoku, come perched on little stands modeled after the sun motif of Howl's castle's kitchen fireplace, so that you can decoratively display them on the edge of your desk or wherever else you want Calcifer's flames to provide you with warm fuzzy feelings. However, the Kazarings wouldn't be 'rings' if you couldn't put them on your fingers, would they? So each one of them can also slide off its perch and onto your digits. To ensure a good fit for a variety of finger sizes, the Kazarings actually have a small opening at the bottom, and can flex slightly because of their PVC construction. I suppose that since the openings mean they're not perfect circles, sticklers could argue that they aren't 'rings' in the strictest sense of the word, but such linguistic lamentations will be drowned out as you and admirers collectively say 'Awwwwwwww!' at how adorable Calcifer looks. Speaking of Calcifer's appearance, the designers have done a great job with the material selection and finishing, with just enough translucency to create a shine that really makes it look like he's made of fire when the light is caught at the optimum angles. In addition to the five designs seen in these photos, there's also a sixth, 'secret' Calcifer Kazaring. How are you supposed to buy something if you don't even know what it is, though? The explanation is that the Kazarings are being sold as blind box/gacha-style purchases, where you don't know which version you've bought until you open up the box. Of course, given how cute the five revealed designs are, it's hard to imagine the secret one not being similarly charming, so in addition to individual Kazarings, available for 1,100 yen (US$7.60) through the Donguri Kyowakoku online shop here, they're also offering a complete box set that guarantees one of each of the six versions for 6,600 yen here. A dog and cat from Canada have captured the hearts of millions after a video of them watching their "favorite show" together went viral on social media. The stars are Luna, a 4-year-old dog, and Calcifer, an 8-month-old cat, a pair of unlikely best friends who share a surprising love of nature videos. The video, which has over 2.1 million views on TikTok, showed the pair relaxing on a bed and intently watching a YouTube channel for pets, featuring birds, squirrels, and other small animals. "I put the bird YouTube channel on just to see their reaction; it was so funny, I decided to share it," owner Eden Wilde told Newsweek. "I didn't expect it to get as much engagement as it got—but I'm glad everyone enjoyed watching them." Luna and Calcifer often enjoy watching small animals, and it isn't just on the TV either. "They both like to watch and listen birds outside also, and the cat comes camping with me and the dogs, so they get a lot of outside time and are exposed to a lot of wildlife," Wilde said. "He's very confident and comfortable with a lot of things and he is best friends with the dogs." As the video gained millions of views on TikTok, people were quick to share their reactions. "Not a blink was blunk," posted viewer almostbreezy. TikTok user ALLEN noticed the difference between Luna and Calcifer's reactions. While Luna sat laid back, the cat was decidedly more interested. "The dog is curious, but the cat wants to unalive the squirrel," the commenter said. Others shared their own experiences of pets watching TV, and a couple of warnings for Wilde, too. "I get so much joy watching my cats enjoying shows too," wrote viewer Authentic. Karaleni wrote: "Hope your TV is anchored cuz [because] my cats knocked mine over trying to get the mice." "My cats start attacking the TV I wish they could enjoy politely," commented Vlada. Wilde said her pets are her whole world, and was delighted that others enjoyed the video as much as she did. "I spend pretty much all my time with them. I love sharing photos and videos because they're my life," she added. Do you have funny and adorable videos or pictures of your pet you want to share?
