All the crimes reported on Midlands estate where people feel they're left behind
Residents have raised concerns that crime is not being taken seriously on their estates - as police statistics showed the most recent offences that have occurred in the area. Fear of crime is said to be high in the neighbourhoods of Caldmore and Palfrey in Walsall. But members of the community said confidence in reporting crime is low, as issues are not being 'tackled'. The highest category of crime was 'violence and sexual offences', with the number of reported offences totalling 26. This was followed by shoplifting and anti-social behaviour, with seven reports made for each category. There were a further 20 reported offences for all other crime, including possession of weapons, public order and drugs. Caldmore comes under the St Matthew's local policing area, which also comprises Walsall town centre and parts of Mellish Road near the arboretum. For the whole area, a total of 396 offences were reported in March. Of those, 167 are under investigation, while police have been unable to prosecute 81 cases and 88 investigations have been completed with no suspect identified. Meanwhile, 38 offences were reported in Palfrey for March. Again, the highest category was violence and sexual offences, with 21 reports, while vehicle crime came second with five reports, and anti-social behaviour with four. Palfrey comes under the Delves local policing area, which received 163 offences overall. Of those, 53 are under investigation, 43 are unable to prosecute and 34 investigations have been completed with no suspect identified. A source told BlackCountryLive: "Their (residents') fear of crime is high but the confidence in reporting is low as the issues are not tackled or investigated. "They (West Midlands Police and the PCC) are saying we are going to this and that - but none of this is seen." West Midlands Police has been approached for comment.
