50 charges laid in widespread commercial vehicle enforcement campaign
Numerous charges were laid after a commercial motor vehicle (CMV) enforcement campaign this past week. Numerous violations were issued after several police services led a campaign to enforce commercial motor vehicle (CMV) safety this week in the northwestern outskirts of the Greater Toronto Area. According to a social media post by provincial police, Caledon OPP, York Regional Police, Peel Regional Police, Halton Regional Police, the Town of Caledon, and the Ministry of Transportation teamed up for the campaign this past Thursday. As a result, OPP reported 67 inspections conducted, 50 charges laid, 16 CMV's taken out of service and one driver taken out of service. Police say the Ministry of Finance also supported the campaign by conducting more than 40 inspections relating to the Fuel Tax Act and the Dangerous Goods Transportation Act. According to the province, operators can face fines of up to $20,000 for failing to meet CMV safety standards and requirements.

Suspicious man at Caledon North Hill Park
Children playing at North Hill Park were shocked when a stranger approached them with an invitation to visit his 'lair'. Caledon Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were summoned to 14051 Highway 50 at about 5:45 p.m. on Saturday. Police were told a man approached the children and began speaking with them, and then invited the children to his lair to have a meal. The man is described having a thin build, aged 50-to-60, six feet tall and carrying a reusable green bag. Police are seeking information and advising the public to remain vigilant. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Caledon OPP at 905-584-2241 or 1-888-310-1122 or provide information anonymously by contacting Peel Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

OPP report slew of impaired driving incidents in Peel region

Provincial police reported this weekend that their Caledon detachment officers responded to several impaired driving incidents in the Caledon area over the last six days. Driver caught in RIDE program According to Caledon OPP, officers investigated a driver that travelled through a RIDE program last Monday morning at around 3 a.m. on Healy Road near Innis Lake Road. Police say officers arrested the driver after suspecting that they were under the influence of alcohol. The 27-year-old Brampton driver was charged with impaired driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding 80 milligrams per 100 millilitres (80 plus), driving with cannabis readily available, and driving while under suspension. Alleged erratic driver On Friday evening just after 10 p.m., Caledon OPP reports that their officers responded to a complaint about a vehicle that was displaying poor driving behaviour. Police say officers located the vehicle on Highway 10 near Charleston Sideroad and deemed that the driver was impaired by alcohol after investigating them. The 23-year-old Brampton driver was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol and driving while impaired – 80 plus. Single-vehicle collision Hours after the previous incident, Caledon OPP says they received a report of a single-collision on The Gore Road near Mayfield Road. Officers arrived on scene at around 11:45 p.m., and police say they suspected that the driver of the vehicle was impaired by alcohol. The driver, another 23-year-old from Brampton, was charged with driving while impaired by alcohol, driving while impaired – 80 plus, driving while under suspension, and possessing more than one licence. All three accused drivers were scheduled for June court dates in Orangeville. Their licences were suspended for 90 days and their vehicles were suspended for seven days.

Tow truck driver charged for alleged reckless driving
A tow truck operator from the Peel region is facing multiple charges after their driving habits sparked a police investigation. According to Caledon OPP, officers began investigating the Brampton operator on April 26 after observing video footage of them driving in an unsafe manner. Police say the video showed the driver exiting the paved portion of a Brampton road and mounting onto the sidewalk to bypass traffic before proceeding through a red light. The 27-year-old was charged with stunt driving, careless driving, and failing to stop at a red light. The driver's licence was suspended for 30 days and they are scheduled for a future appearance in a Caledon court.

Create Account On Saturday around 1 a.m., an officer responding to a traffic complaint on Hwy. 10 near Highpoint Side Rd. found a driver who allegedly appeared to be operating a motor vehicle while impaired by alcohol. Esmeralda Melendez, 27, of Tottenham, was charged. About an hour later, an officer stopped a vehicle on Hwy. 50 near Mayfield Rd. for a traffic violation. Fabricio Sarabia, 41, of Toronto, was charged with impaired driving. On Sunday around 5 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Airport Rd. near King St. Simran Dhaliwal, 22, of Hillsburgh, was charged with impaired driving. RECOMMENDED VIDEO On Monday around 3 a.m., officers responded to a single-vehicle crash on Innislake Rd. near Castlederg Side Road. Sukman, 26, of Brampton was charged with failure or refusal to comply with a demand and driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available. Apinesh Eswaradevan, 20, of Toronto, was charged with breach of recognizance and possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. Abinesh Gunabalasingam and Jeron Jesunayagam, both 18 and of Brampton, were also charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000. The six drivers charged with stunt driving had their licences suspended for 30 days and their vehicles impounded for 14 days.
