Calera Police Department still searching for Reuben Waithaka, requesting the public's assistance
CALERA, Ala. (WIAT) — The Calera Police Department is encouraging the public to continue spreading the word about 72-year-old Reuben Waithaka, who was last seen on May 15.
Waithaka and his wife, Elizabeth, were visiting Alabama from Kenya to celebrate their grandson's graduation from Calera High School. Waithaka was last seen in the area of Merion Drive wearing khaki pants and a plaid button-up shirt.
According to the Calera Police Department, Waithaka was given rides by at least two people after leaving his family's home. One of these rides was to the Chevron gas station across the street from the Timberline subdivision entrance.
'We are working with federal law enforcement and trying every avenue we can to get the word out,' Calera Police Chief David Hyche said in a Facebook post Friday night. 'I recently did an interview with Kenyan national media to appeal to Kenyans with relatives in the US for help. Reuben is out there somewhere.'
Anyone with information on Waithaka's location is asked to contact the Calera Police Department at 205-668-3505.
