The cause of the fire is under investigation. TRACY, Calif. - A wind-driven vegetation fire sparked in a rural part of Alameda County on Thursday afternoon. What we know According to Cal Fire SCU, the blaze, dubbed the Midway Fire, broke out around 2:51 p.m. near Patterson Pass and Midway roads, close to Altamont Pass. It was situated between the cities of Livermore and Tracy. Why you should care The Midway Fire charred 262 acres. By early Thursday evening, officials with Calfire said it was 75% contained. The California Highway Patrol shut down both directions of Interstate 580 between Patterson Pass Road and Interstate 205 as fire crews worked to contain the flames. The left lanes opened in both directions at around 6:25 p.m., but drivers were advised to expect delays and to use alternate routes to avoid the area. There was no estimated time to fully reopen the roadway. What we don't know The cause remains under investigation. The Alameda County Fire Department, which along with Tracy Fire Department provided aid, said there were preliminary reports that the fire may have started near downed 230 kV transmission lines. Firefighters stop progress of ‘Putah Fire' burning north of Vacaville

(KRON) — Firefighters are battling a 16.8-acre fire burning north of Vacaville near Putah Creek Road and Olive School Lane. The fire initially had a 'rapid rate of spread' when it was reported at 12:53 p.m. on Monday, Cal Fire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit said. One structure was threatened by the fire. As of 3 p.m., the fire is 50% contained. 'Forward progress of the fire has been stopped and firefighters have hose all the way around its perimeter,' Cal Fire said. Crews control large fire at Valero oil refinery in Benicia Five engines, one fire crew, one bulldozer and one helicopter responded to the fire. The Putah Fire is one of seven fires that Calfire's Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit has responded to in the past 16 hours. Cal Fire is asking the public to be mindful of fire safety during hot, windy days. 'In these windy conditions across the region, and with fire activity picking up across the state, please do your part to prevent sparks that could ignite a wildfire,' Cal Fire said.
