Calgary's most picturesque patios unveiled on new list
Eight Calgary restaurants have made a new list of the best places for outdoor dining in Canada. The list from online restaurant reservation site OpenTable was released on Thursday and draws upon the data from one million reviews submitted by verified OpenTable diners across Canada between April 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025. The list features 56 restaurants in Ontario, 19 in British Columbia, 16 in Alberta, four in Quebec, three in Nova Scotia, one in Manitoba and one in Saskatchewan. Of those featured in Alberta, three are in Edmonton, two are in Banff (Lupo and Three Bears), one is in Canmore (Bridgette Bar) and one is in Bragg Creek (Italian Farmhouse). The Calgary eateries featured on the list of picturesque patios include: OpenTable noted that Barbarella, Bonterra and the Bow Valley Ranche are all dog-friendly patios. 'We are seeing a demand for pet-friendly patios in real time, as dining is growing 11 per cent higher year-over-year at pet-friendly restaurants than those that don't allow pets,' said spokesperson Matt Davis in a news release. New rooftop restaurant and bar set to open in Calgary this summer
Another Calgary restaurant that offers rooftop dining is set to open early this summer. Bow & Bend will sit on the 12th floor of the Element Hotel, located in the 800 block of Fourth Avenue S.W. General manager Johen Lemieux says the rooftop patio will have sweeping panoramic views of the restaurant's namesake – the Bow River – as well as the Canadian Rockies 'Bow & Bend offers a unique blend of natural and urban charm from one rooftop patio destination,' he said in a news release. The new restaurant and bar is part of the transformation of a previously underutilized office tower – The Canadian Centre - now reimagined as part of the City of Calgary's Downtown Development Incentive Program. Officials say the venue will have a sleek design evoking the feelings of luxury and comfort. 'The open-air dining room or patio is the ideal place for sharing a meal with friends or family, or dropping in for after-work cocktails and snacks,' said a news release. Bow & Bend Calgary rooftop restaurant Bow & Bend opens this summer. (Supplied) When the restaurant opens, it will seat 210 people between its dining room, patio and two private rooms. The restaurant will be open from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and until 1 a.m. on Friday and Saturday. Brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
