Should the Nets trade for Trail Blazers' Toumani Camara?

Should the Nets trade for Trail Blazers' Toumani Camara? The Brooklyn Nets have plenty of cap space and draft assets to play with this summer as they are looking to reshape the roster after a 26-56 record in the 2024-25 season. While Brooklyn is expected to add some young talent in the upcoming 2025 NBA Draft, they could also be looking for players to trade for if the price is considered a value. "I have heard that the Blazers want something like two firsts for Camara," The Athletic's Jovan Buha said of Portland Trail Blazers forward Toumani Camara during an episode of his "Buha's Block" podcast (h/t Bleacher Report's Scott Polacek). Buha was answering a hypothetical trade offer that would send Camara and Deandre Ayton from Portland to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange for Gabe Vincent, Maxi Kleber, Dalton Knecht and a first-round pick. Camara is not necessarily considered to be available for trade given what he did during his second season in the NBA after being the 52nd overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Camara, 25, averaged 11.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 45.8% from the field and 37.5% from three-point land in 78 games played for the Trail Blazers. Not only that, but Camara is coming off a season in which he made All-Defensive Second Team, showing how much he grew as a player on the defensive end as well as the offensive end. What this means for the Nets is that someone like Camara could bring a level of defensive ability that the team hasn't seen since Jason Kidd during his days playing for the franchise in New Jersey. Brooklyn has four first-round picks to use in the 2025 Draft, but it's possible that they would rather use those picks on players in this class rather than paying a premium for a player that could have already reached his ceiling. It would be easier for the Nets to either take chances on players in the Draft or use their cap space to invest in players like Golden State Warriors forward Jonathan Kuminga, for example, to avoid having to use their draft picks as well.

Former Flyer Toumani Camara named to NBA All-Defensive Second Team

PORTLAND, Oregon (WDTN) – Former UD men's basketball forward Toumani Camara was named to the NBA All-Defensive Second Team on Thursday. The former Flyers star becomes the first Trail Blazers player to earn all-defensive honors in 21 years. The last to claim the award was Theo Ratliff in 2003-04. Camara received six first-team votes and 62 second-team votes in the selection process. After two seasons in Dayton, the 2023 second-round pick earned the honor in his second season with Portland. He led the NBA in charges drawn (31) and offensive fouls drawn (90). He ranked second in defensive stops (257) and ninth in steals (116). Camara was also the Western Conference Defensive Player of the Month and finished ninth in Defensive Player of the Year voting. The UD grad was a pivotal part of the Blazers' development, helping them improve from a 21-61 team to a 36-46 team. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. NBA insider reveals Portland Trail Blazers' potential asking price for Toumani Camara

We're still eagerly awaiting to see who wins the NBA Finals between the top contenders in the Eastern and Western Conference. Meanwhile, other teams, like the Portland Trail Blazers are formulating their offseason plans on how to improve the roster around players like Toumani Camara. Yet, Camara, who was just selected as a second-team All-NBA defender, certainly is a potential building block. However, the Blazers may prefer to capitalize on the 25-year-old rising star's surging trade value instead. Though, if the Blazers do consider trading the 2023 second-round pick, how much would he fetch? Advertisement The Athletic's Jovan Buha recently took a crack at placing Camara's trade value around the league based on what he's heard. According to Buha, Camara's trade value could be as high as two first-round picks. 'I have heard that the Blazers want something like two firsts for Camara, so maybe they view Dalton and a first as sufficient, but I think Portland probably says no, to be honest.' The Athletic's Jovan Buha on Toumani Camara Camara may have been a bit of a hidden gem until receiving recognition from the league. Yet, Camara did enjoy a breakout season with 11.3 points per game, 5.8 rebounds per game, 1.5 steals, and half a block per game. Keep in mind, this was just the Belgian native's second year in the league. Who knows how high his ceiling could be? Still trying to build a contender, it may be wise for the Blazers to see what Camara is fully capable of before weighing a trade that would ship him out for more draft picks. Yet, if there's a player they covet, like the Los Angeles Lakers' Dalton Knecht, perhaps a deal could be had. Related: Milwaukee Bucks preparing for Giannis Antetokounmpo trade this offseason

The ban ex-Chelsea and Man Utd star Matic faces for anti-homophobia protest

Former Chelsea and Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic could face a substantial ban after he covered an anti-homophobia message on his kit with tape. Clubs in France sported rainbow-coloured logos on their right sleeve on Saturday to commemorate International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia. But two-time Premier League winner Matic, 36, opted not to participate, instead taping over the message with a strip of white tape. Matic, currently playing for Ligue 1 side Lyon, came on as a second-half substitute in the 2-0 win over Angers. Fans quickly spotted Matic had covered up the anti-homophobia message on his kit. The Serbia international had no reservations highlighting his protest either as he posted several pictures on social media from the game which showed the message covered up. Matic is not the first player to cover up an anti-homophobia message, with Monaco's Mohamed Camara receiving a four-match ban for his decision to do so last season. The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) hit Camara with a suspension as they said the Mali footballer refused to 'carry out one or more actions to raise awareness of the fight against homophobia'. At the time, France's sports minister called for the 'strongest sanctions' to be taken against Camara and Monaco. 'It is unacceptable behaviour,' sports minister Amelie Oudea-Castera told French radio station RTL. 'I had the chance to tell the LFP what I thought about it and I think such behaviour must be subject to the strongest sanctions against the player and the club which allowed it to happen.' Mostafa Mohamed, who plays for Nantes, has repeatedly refused to engage in the anti-homophobia initiative. The Egyptian, who cited his personal beliefs as the reason he would not participate, has not featured in any of Nantes' matchday squads that coincide with the league's anti-homophobia initiatives. As a result he was left out of Nantes' 3-0 win over Montpellier on Saturday. 'Everyone carries their own story, culture and sensitivity,' Mohamed previously said. 'Living together also means recognising that diversity can be expressed differently depending on the person. 'I believe in mutual respect. The respect we owe others, but also the respect we owe to ourselves and our beliefs. 'For me, there are deep-rooted values linked to my background and my beliefs that make my participation in this initiative difficult.' More Trending Earlier this season, England and Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi wrote 'Jesus loves you' on a rainbow armband that was worn as part of the Premier League's LGBTQ+ inclusion initiative in association with the charity Stonewall. 'The message was just a message of truth and love and inclusivity to be honest,' Guehi said. 'I don't think the message was harmful in any way – that's all I can really say about that to be honest. 'I believe 100% in the words that I wrote – it's a message of truth and love, and I hope people can understand that my faith is my faith, and I'll stand by it for the rest of my life.' Camara will reportedly sign a long term deal at Ibrox this summer when his contract with the French capital club runs out Oumar Camara will sign for Rangers this summer, according to a report. RMC Sport claim that the 18-year old right winger will put pen to paper on a long-term deal at Ibrox when his contract at PSG expires this summer. ‌ The Ligue 1 champions were keen to hang on to Camara, but it's claimed the chance to potentially sample the Champions League or Europe League with the Light Blues helped swing things in their favour. ‌ And he's signed a pre-contract agreement before heading to Glasgow and opfficially joining up when the transfer window opens. It's likely Camara will begin life in Govan with the Gers B team, although there is a chance he could make the jump up to first team level before too long. That will depend on how he impresses the new manager, whoever that may be. Real Madrid assistant Davide Ancelotti remains in the frame but will join up with Brazil as part of his dad's backroom team for next month's World Cup qualifiers. However, CEO Patrick Stewart is also considering British names with Sean Dyche, Gary O'Neil and Russell Martin all possibilities.
