Letters to the editor: Focus on reducing water waste; following familiar playbook

Letters to the editor: Focus on reducing water waste; following familiar playbook Prioritizing water conservation In an effort to reduce water waste, the city of Camarillo will now submit water usage reports every year on Jan. 1, starting this year in 2025. Along with this, the city will be following a budget for residential and outdoor water usage, and I believe that prioritizing these water use objectives, and water conservation in general, will help strengthen our communities against the dangers of future wildfires. Wildfires spread more rapidly in dry environments, and combined with Santa Ana winds, these fires are hard to contain. In addition, California's water supply has been a prevalent issue throughout this state's history. Due to how the water supply is divided up to focus on different needs, such as agricultural, environmental, and communal needs, our supply is being spread thinly. Meeting these needs is important, but it affects our water pressure and strains the system, making fires harder to control. But water conservation could help protect and extend your local water supply. By conserving water, we could also minimize the negative impact of wildfires, droughts, and climate change on our farms, ecosystems, and communities. This is why Camarillo, and California as a whole, should continue to focus on reducing water waste. The Camarillo City Council should also bring more attention to conservation rebates and incentives, which include water-efficient appliances, irrigation controllers, and sprinkler nozzles. Residents could help by visiting and doing research on these programs and water conservation itself. Another way residents can help is by following tips from to reduce water usage around the house and yard. While some citizens may feel that water conservation is a problem bigger than them, every citizen could protect their communities by spreading the word and doing their part by using water responsibly. Kate Macias, Camarillo Purposely following playbook Re: Ingrid Jacques' Jan. 25 column, 'The left regresses to cancel culture': Either Ms. Jacques is woefully ignorant or chooses to be blind to reality. Those on the left who compare Trump to Hitler are not name calling; it's the truth. I visited the Auschwitz exhibit at the Reagan Library last year and have viewed the PBS series 'The Rise of the Nazis.' Trump and Stephen Miller are purposely following the playbook of Hitler and Himmler. Track down the PBS series, which you can stream, for yourself and look at the comparisons. That's not name calling (which Trump excels at). It's looking clearly at the actions and intentions. This is exactly how democracies crumble. Carl Morehouse, Ventura
