Chinese tourist arrivals to Cambodia's iconic Angkor up 30 per cent in January-May period
China was the fourth largest source of international tourist arrivals to Angkor after the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. - PPP PHNOM PENH: Cambodia has reported a remarkable rise in the number of Chinese tourists to its famed Angkor Archaeological Park in the first five months of 2025, said an official report on Tuesday (June 3). A total of 43,193 Chinese visitors visited Angkor during the January-May period, up 30 per cent from 33,292 over the same period last year, said the state-owned Angkor Enterprise's report. China was the fourth largest source of international tourist arrivals to Angkor after the United States, the United Kingdom, and France, it added. According to the report, a total of 527,577 foreigners from 171 countries and regions toured the ancient park in the first five months of this year, generating a gross revenue of US$24.5 million from ticket sales. Thong Mengdavid, a lecturer at the Institute for International Studies and Public Policy of the Royal University of Phnom Penh, said that, with 2025 being designated as the Cambodia-China Tourism Year, a significant surge in Chinese tourist arrivals to the Angkor Archaeological Park is predicted. "This increase will likely be driven by enhanced bilateral cooperation, promotional campaigns, and greater accessibility through direct flights and group tour packages," he told Xinhua. Thourn Sinan, chairman of the Pacific Asia Travel Association Cambodia chapter, said Chinese tourists have played a crucial role in Cambodia's tourism industry. "The Cambodia-China Tourism Year 2025 marks a significant step forward in revitalizing bilateral tourism and people-to-people exchanges," he told Xinhua. Located in northwest Siem Reap province, the 401-sq-km Angkor Archaeological Park, inscribed on the World Heritage List of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (Unesco) in 1992, is the most popular tourist destination in the kingdom. The world heritage site is home to 91 ancient temples, which had been built from the ninth to the 13th centuries.- Xinhua

China province commits to promoting Cambodian tourism industry

This commitment was during a May 23 meeting between Jiangsu Provincial Governor Xu Kunlin and Minister of Tourism Huot Hak, at the tourism ministry headquarters in Phnom Penh. Hak offered a warm welcome to the Jiangsu delegation, who were visiting the Kingdom to attend the opening ceremony of the 'Cambodia-China Tourism Year'. He praised the long-standing 67-year diplomatic ties between Cambodia and China, emphasising the spirit of the 'Ironclad Friendship and Shared Future in the New Era', along with the 'Diamond Cooperation Framework' between the two nations. The minister also offered his congratulations on the recent resumption of direct flights between Wuxi city, Jiangsu province, and Preah Sihanouk province's Sihanoukville on May 18, by China's Ruili Airlines. The flights resumed after a two-year suspension. Xu expressed his pleasure at having the opportunity to discuss further cooperation with the ministry and highlighted both past and future tourism collaboration between Cambodia and Jiangsu. During the meeting, both parties signed six memoranda of understanding (MoUs). According to a tourism ministry press release, key areas of future cooperation will include the promotion of Cambodia as a tourism destination in Jiangsu. The provincial administration has also agreed to encourage investors from the province to invest in the Kingdom's tourism industry, while also working to increase the number of direct flights between cities in Jiangsu and Cambodia's major tourism destinations. In addition, prominent journalists and influencers from Jiangsu will be invited to explore Cambodia on familiarisation trips later this year, and an upcoming 'Cambodia Festival' in Jiangsu province will showcase Cambodian tourism and culture to the Chinese public. - The Phnom Penh Post/ANN

Cambodia's Angkor park sees 29 per cent rise in Chinese tourist arrivals in first four months of 2025
PHNOM PENH (Xinhua): Cambodia has seen a significant uptick in the number of Chinese tourists to its famed Angkor Archeological Park in the first four months of 2025, said an official report on Monday. A total of 36,368 Chinese holidaymakers visited Angkor during the January-April period this year, up 29 percent from 28,172 over the same period last year, said the state-owned Angkor Enterprise's report. China was the fourth-biggest source of international tourist arrivals to Angkor after the United States, France, and Britain, it added. According to the report, some 474,810 foreigners from 171 countries and regions toured the ancient park in the first four months of this year, earning a gross revenue of 22.2 million U.S. dollars from ticket sales.
