Ranking the 10 best Texas colleges per U.S. News & World Report

Texas is home to over 268 Universities and community colleges, including three of the best and most well-known universities in the country, ranked among the Top 60 national universities by U.S. News & World Report. However, only the cream of the crop in the Lone Star State was included in the latest 2025 rankings. In this article, ten national universities in Texas are included in the rankings, including a tie between two of the more expensive schools. What is a national university when compared to a liberal arts-based institution? U.S. News & World Report defines a national university wth the following description: "Schools in the National Universities category.. offer a full range fo undergraduate majors, plus master's and doctorial programs" U.S. News states. "These colleges also are committed to producing groundbreaking research." Within these rankings, tuition, location, 2024 enrollment, and, of course, the national ranking for every school are included. Texas A&M is currently ranked 51st among national universities and is well-respected both domestically and globally. Texas A&M makes the cut in the latest NCAA Tournament Top 16 seed reveal

No. 8 Texas A&M (19-5, 8-3 SEC) is currently facing Arkansas on Saturday afternoon. Still, at the end of the first half, the NCAA Selection Committee released its Top 16 tournament seeds a little over a month before the committee decides what teams will earn at-large bids to the big dance. Even before SEC play, Texas A&M's elite nonconference resume has aided the program's rise in the rankings and standing with the selection committee. The Aggies are now positioned as the sixth overall team among the Top 16 seeds and one spot above Purdue, whom A&M defeated earlier in the season. With the sixth overall ranking, Texas A&M is still considered a 2-seed in a group with Tennessee (5th), Purdue (7th), and Houston (8th). The Aggies are also among six SEC teams considered a Top 4-seed in March. With six games left in the regular season, the goal is simple: keep winning and earn at least one or two more Quad 1 wins to stay at the 2-seed line. However, road tests against Mississippi State and Florida combined with home tests vs. Vanderbilt and No. 1 ranked Auburn present unique opportunities to pad their resume, as the season finale vs. LSU is the only potential "bad loss" remaining on the schedule. SEC Basketball standings after No. 13 Texas A&M's loss to Texas

No. 13 Texas A&M (15-5, 4-3 SEC) couldn't hold what built up to a 22-point lead against the Texas Longhorns on Saturday afternoon as the Aggies left a packed Moody Center with a shocking 70-69 loss just a day after defeating Ole Miss on the road 63-62. Yes, comeback wins are Texas A&M's bread and butter, as the Aggies' offensive inconsistency combined with elite defense is the recipe for late-game surges, but holding big leads has been an issue throughout the season. Still, Saturday's loss can be directly attributed to poor free-throw shooting. Finishing 3-8 from the line in a one-point loss answers any lingering questions for a team that has only lost by double digits twice all season. Even with the loss, Texas A&M is in excellent shape heading into week 13 before hosting Oklahoma on Tuesday night. After Tennessee's loss to Auburn, the Aggies are tied with five teams at 4-3 in the SEC standings. Here are the latest SEC basketball standings ahead of a loaded week 13 schedule: No. 1 Auburn (18-1, 6-0 SEC) No. 4 Alabama (17-3, 6-1 SEC) No. 22 Missouri (16-4, 5-2 SEC) No. 5 Florida (18-2, 5-2 SEC) No. 14 Mississippi State (16-4, 4-3 SEC) Vanderbilt (16-4, 4-3 SEC) No. 6 Tennessee (17-3, 4-3 SEC) No. 13 Texas A&M (15-5, 4-3 SEC) No. 16 Ole Miss (15-5, 4-3 SEC) No. 9 Kentucky (14-5, 3-3 SEC) Texas (14-6, 3-4 SEC) Oklahoma (15-4, 2-4 SEC) Georgia (14-6, 2-5 SEC) LSU (12-7, 1-5 SEC) Arkansas (12-8, 1-6 SEC) South Carolina (10-10, 0-7 SEC) Texas A&M will return to Reed Arena to host Oklahoma on Jan. 28 at 8:00 p.m. CST. The game can be watched on the SEC Network. Contact/Follow us @AggiesWire on X and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Texas A&M news, notes and opinions.
