Porsche to Auction a One-Off 911 GT3 RS Adorned with a Maple Leaf

Porsche is launching a new Porsche Experience Center (sorry, Centre) in Toronto and celebrating with a special charity auction. Porsche Cars Canada is auctioning a one-off 911 GT3 RS designed as a tribute to the Land of Maple, with a portion of proceeds benefiting Campfire Circle. While being auctioned in Canada, Porsche confirmed to Car and Driver that U.S. residents can bid, but then must convert the car to U.S. specifications. Porsche is launching its third Experience Center in North America, this time in the Toronto area, specifically Pickering, Ontario. To celebrate the opening and to benefit a local charity, Porsche Cars Canada is auctioning a one-off 911 GT3 RS as Canadian as Hudson's Bay or Shania Twain. The one-of-one model was designed as a collaboration between Porsche Cars Canada and Porsche's Sonderwunsch division, and was first shown at last year's Toronto Auto Show. A 911 GT3 RS with a Maple Leaf Livery Sometimes, rightfully so, sports-car drivers are accused of treating the road like their personal racetrack, ignoring turn signals and generally driving without consideration for those around them. We just can't imagine any of that tomfoolery going on with this car—at least not without an "ope" and at least one "sorry" to go along with blowing your doors off on the highway. Porsche The one-of-one 911 is finished in an eye-catching asymmetrical livery that draws considerable inspiration from the Canadian flag. The right two-thirds of the car is painted red, with the remaining third painted white. While the actual flag doesn't divide its colors in the same way, the ratio is the same. The red side of the car gets white graphics for the side and wheels, while the white side, of course, gets red accents. A duotone maple leaf on the roof is the cinnamon sugar on the top of the beaver tail. Porsche Porsche The Canadian touches don't stop with the exterior. The door sills feature a special Toronto skyline graphic, there's red-and-white stitching on the dash, and the seatbelts are finished in red too. The seats are clothed in a special red pepita fabric created just for this build. The winner of the auction also gets a matching Chronograph 911 GT3 RS watch. Porsche Fittingly, the auction opens tonight and runs until 3:00 p.m. on Canada Day (July 1). And the best part is that Porsche Cars Canada is donating a portion of the proceeds to the charity Campfire Circle. Plus, while the car is being auctioned in Canada, Porsche confirmed to Car and Driver that U.S. residents are eligible to participate. Should they win, they'd just need to pay to convert it to a U.S. specification car. Jack Fitzgerald Associate News Editor Jack Fitzgerald's love for cars stems from his as yet unshakable addiction to Formula 1. After a brief stint as a detailer for a local dealership group in college, he knew he needed a more permanent way to drive all the new cars he couldn't afford and decided to pursue a career in auto writing. By hounding his college professors at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, he was able to travel Wisconsin seeking out stories in the auto world before landing his dream job at Car and Driver. His new goal is to delay the inevitable demise of his 2010 Volkswagen Golf. Read full bio

Sporting Life 10K Celebrates 25 Years of Running for Kids with Serious Illness

One of the biggest running events of the year, this sold-out event will welcome 23,000 participants on Toronto's Yonge Street this Mother's Day in support of children's charity Campfire Circle TORONTO, May 1, 2025 /CNW/ - Now in its 25th year, the Sporting Life 10K, hosted by the iconic sports and style retailer Sporting Life, is bringing together 23,000 participants on Yonge Street this Mother's Day, May 11, 2025, in support of Campfire Circle, a charity that provides year-round programs for kids with cancer or serious illness and their families. Since its inception in 2000, the event has raised more than $27 million to support Campfire Circle's hospital, community, and overnight camp programs—offering joy, connection, and healing to thousands of children and their families across Ontario. "This event is so much more than a run—it's a movement," says David Russell, Founder of Sporting Life. "For 25 years, we've watched tens of thousands of people lace up not just for the finish line, but for a cause that touches so many. Whether you're running for your child, your friend, or just for fun—every step helps kids facing unthinkable challenges rediscover what it means to just be a kid." This year's sold-out event includes an in-person race on May 11 and a virtual option from May 11–31, allowing supporters from across Canada and beyond to participate. The event hopes to help Campfire Circle raise over $2.5 million. "Thanks to our extraordinary and longstanding partnership with Sporting Life, this race has become a cornerstone of our community," says Alex Robertson, CEO of Campfire Circle. "Each participant, donor, and sponsor are a part of something powerful—helping kids rediscover joy, friendship, and belonging. Together, we're building a world where children thrive and families heal." Funds raised will support Campfire Circle's year-round programs at paediatric hospitals (SickKids, McMaster Children's Hospital, Children's Hospital at London Health Sciences Centre, and CHEO), in communities across Ontario, and at two medically supported overnight camps in Muskoka and Waterford.
